Target gives verified teachers two things. The first is a cheaper Target Circle 360 membership: $49 a year or $4.99 a month for verified teachers, against a regular $99 a year or $10.99 a month. The second is a percentage off one storewide purchase that shows up only when Target runs a campaign, and the last two we found have ended.
If you’re the teacher who keeps meaning to verify until a sale starts, Target’s own wording is a reason to do it first: it says your Target Circle Bonus appears in your account when there is a live campaign taking place. Here’s how verification works, who it covers and what each benefit says.
How To Get The Target Teacher Discount
Target’s teacher verification help article says that first, you must be a Target Circle member. Then you verify through SheerID, which Target says it partners with to check eligibility. In the Target app, go to the My Target tab, then Settings, then Teacher verification under the Your discounts section. On Target.com, log in, go to Account, then Settings, then Verify status in the Discounts section, then Verify status in the Teacher section.
You’ll need a school-issued document that shows your first and last name, your school name and a date in the current academic year. Target’s examples are a teacher ID card with a valid date, or a pay stub from within the last 90 days. If the organization on your pay stub doesn’t match your school’s name, Target says you may be asked to upload new documentation. After you’re verified, it says to allow up to 1 hour before the bonus shows in your account.
Who Counts As A Teacher
Target’s help article lists teachers, staff and faculty employed by K-12 schools and colleges/universities in the United States. It also lists daycare center and early childhood learning center teachers, and home school teachers. So support staff, college faculty, preschool teachers and home school teachers are all named, not only K-12 classroom teachers.
The Circle 360 Price
Target’s release about its fall and holiday deals says Target Circle Card holders, teachers, college students, military members and government assistance recipients can receive over 50% off a Target Circle 360 membership. It says the membership includes free, fast shipping, same-day delivery, monthly freebies and early access to select sales. Its footnote gives the verified-teacher prices: $49 a year (regular price $99 a year) or $4.99 a month (regular price $10.99 a month), and it adds that terms apply.
The Percentage-Off Offers
These come in campaigns. Target’s Teacher Appreciation news article said that during one week this year, verified teachers who were members of the free Target Circle loyalty program could receive 10% off one storewide purchase. A later back-to-school release said college students and teachers who are Circle members could save 20% off one storewide purchase for a longer stretch. It was subject to terms and conditions, and it required college student or teacher verification. Both offers have ended.
We didn’t find a holiday teacher offer on any Target page we read. That fall and holiday release names teachers only in the footnote for Circle 360 prices, so Circle 360 is the teacher benefit we can point you to for holiday shopping.
What We Couldn’t Confirm
We couldn’t re-read the terms on Target’s own Circle 360 membership page, so we can’t tell you how renewal and cancellation work or what limits apply. Read those before you sign up. We didn’t verify through SheerID ourselves either, so we can’t say how long approval takes beyond Target’s up-to-1-hour note. We also can’t say whether Target will run another teacher percentage-off before the year ends, because none is announced on the pages we read.
