AFT members get 12% off Hilton, up to 20% off Wyndham, 3% to 8% off Southwest fares and up to 35% off at six car rental companies. You have to be a member of the American Federation of Teachers to use any of it.
AFT’s member benefits site covers hotels, flights, vacation tours, car rentals and theme parks. If you’re a teacher who isn’t an AFT member, our Wyndham, Hertz, Dollar and Budget posts cover the teacher routes through ID.me instead.
How To Get The AFT Travel Benefits
- Confirm you’re an AFT member. If you’re not sure, ask your local.
- Register on AFT’s member benefits site with your AFT member ID and your local union number, both on your membership card. If you don’t have the member ID, AFT links a form to request it.
- Pick the benefit you want from AFT’s travel page and follow its partner link. Southwest sits behind a login.
Hotels
AFT gives you three hotel options: Wyndham, Hilton, or Union Plus discounts powered by Priceline. They work differently, so pick the one that fits the stay you’re planning before you start.
Wyndham. You get up to 20% off the best available rate at more than 9,000 participating hotels worldwide, including Days Inn, Super 8, Ramada, Wyndham, Microtel, Hawthorn Suites, La Quinta, Wyndham Garden, Howard Johnson, Travelodge, AmericInn and Wyndham Grand. Book by calling 877-670-7088 and giving the corporate code on AFT’s hotel page, or book online through the link on that page. Our Wyndham post covers the separate ID.me route for teachers.
Hilton. You get 12% off at all global Hilton hotels, subject to availability, including Hilton, Hilton Garden Inn, Conrad, Waldorf, Embassy Suites, Doubletree, Homewood Suites and Hampton by Hilton. This one is online only: use the Preferred Rates page linked from AFT’s hotel page and enter the corporate code printed there.
Union Plus, powered by Priceline. Union Plus and Priceline offer up to 50% off hotels around the U.S. and the world, across more than a million hotels, B&Bs and resorts, many with flexible booking options. You book it online through the Union Plus Hotels + More program.
NEA members have their own booking program, covered in our NEA Travel post.
Southwest Airlines
AFT members get discounts on domestic flights through AFT’s SWABIZ account: 8% off Business Select fares, 6% off Anytime fares and 3% off select Wanna Get Away fares. The benefit is for members and their families, and you reach it by logging in to AFT’s members-only site. Our Southwest post covers the options for teachers who aren’t members.
Car Rentals
Members and their families save on rentals from eight companies. Avis, Budget, Dollar, Hertz, Payless and Thrifty are each up to 35% off, and Enterprise and National are each up to 20% off. Check the total before you book.
Theme Parks And Vacation Tours
AFT’s travel page also lists discounts on water and theme park admissions, including Disney, Universal Studios and Six Flags, plus savings on vacation tours around the world. AFT doesn’t say how much you save on either, so the member site is where you see the price.
