How To Get The Hertz Teacher Discount
- Start on ID.me Shop’s Hertz page and choose the teacher offer. ID.me’s help center says selecting an offer sends you to the retailer’s website.
- On Hertz’s site, look for the ID.me button. ID.me says it most often shows up at checkout, and you may need to say you’re verifying as a teacher.
- Sign in to your ID.me wallet or create one, then pick “I am licensed by my state.” If you’d rather upload a document, pick “I do not have my state license number” instead.
- Choose your state and follow the prompts. Once ID.me accepts you, select Allow so it can share your information with Hertz.
ID.me’s own tip is to use your state teaching license if you can, because “it’s the fastest way to verify.”
Who ID.me Counts As A Teacher
ID.me says you “must be a currently employed educator.” The list runs well past classroom teachers. Certified substitutes, certified teacher aides and assistants, paraprofessionals, principals, librarians, school counselors, school nurses and college professors are all named. Retired teachers, teachers with expired credentials and uncertified homeschool teachers are on the not-eligible list. Teacher verification lasts five years, then you reverify from your wallet.
What ID.me’s Hertz Page Says About Limits
The restriction note reads: “Discount offers are subject to availability at participating locations. Use of coupons and promotional codes not on ID.me may void cash back. Some restrictions may apply.” The page doesn’t name a rental length, a vehicle class or a dollar cap, and it doesn’t say whether the percentage comes off the base rate or the total, so read the price breakdown before you confirm. The same “Up to 25% Off” line appears for military, nurses, first responders, government employees, medical providers, students and alumni, which makes it a shared ceiling rather than a teacher-only one.

AFT’s car rental page says “AFT members and their families save on car rentals from the following companies,” and it lists Hertz at “save up to 35%.” That’s a higher ceiling than ID.me’s 25%, but both are “up to” figures, so neither tells you what your dates will cost. AFT links each company to Union Plus’s car rental page, which says you reserve online or by phone and “make sure you have the corresponding discount number.” ID.me doesn’t say whether its offer combines with an outside rate, and its warning about outside codes and cash back points toward one route per booking.
