ID.me’s Dollar Car Rental page shows a teacher offer named “Up to 25% Off for Teachers” and a separate cash back card named “Up to 2.0% cash back for Teachers.” Both are “up to” figures, so the number on your booking screen is the one that counts.
Dollar’s own About page says the company “is a subsidiary of The Hertz Corporation,” yet ID.me gives Dollar its own store page and its own teacher offer, apart from Hertz’s. Dollar’s current deals page returned nothing readable but its title. The association discounts page we could read names AAA, Union Plus, BJ’s Wholesale and AICPA members and doesn’t mention teachers or ID.me, so we can’t quote any rate terms from Dollar itself.
How To Get The Dollar Car Rental Teacher Discount
- Start on ID.me Shop’s Dollar Car Rental page and pick the teacher offer. ID.me’s help center says this sends you to the retailer’s website.
- On Dollar’s site, look for the ID.me button. ID.me says it most often appears at checkout, and you may need to say you’re verifying as a teacher.
- Sign in to your ID.me wallet or create one. Then choose “I am licensed by my state,” or choose “I do not have my state license number” and upload documentation.
- Pick your state and follow the prompts. When ID.me accepts you, select Allow so it can share your information with the retailer.
ID.me’s tip: use your state teaching license if you can, because “it’s the fastest way to verify.”
What The Restriction Note Says
ID.me’s Dollar page carries one note: “Use of coupons and promotional codes not on ID.me may void cash back. Some restrictions may apply.” It talks about cash back, not the percentage off. The page names no rental length, vehicle class or dollar cap, and doesn’t say whether the percentage comes off the base rate or the total. Check the price breakdown before you confirm, and if cash back matters to you, keep outside codes out of that booking.
Who Can Verify
ID.me says you “must be a currently employed educator,” and the list runs past classroom teachers. It includes paraprofessionals, librarians, school counselors, school nurses, school psychologists, and “other school employees” with the examples “School cafeteria, maintenance, office, computer IT staff, etc.” Retired teachers and teachers with expired credentials aren’t eligible. Homeschool teachers can verify if they submit a valid teaching certificate. Teacher verification lasts five years.

AFT’s car rental page says “AFT members and their families save on car rentals from the following companies,” and it lists Dollar at “save up to 35%.” AFT links each company to Union Plus’s car rental page, which says to “make sure you have the corresponding discount number” and that the discounts are “available in participating locations in the United States and Canada.” Dollar’s own association page lists Union Plus with “special savings on car rentals” and no percentage.
