U-Haul doesn’t list a teacher discount, and ID.me says it isn’t aware of one either. ID.me’s U-Haul page asks “Does Uhaul offer a Teachers community discount or cash back?” and answers “We’re not aware that Uhaul offers Teachers discounts.” U-Haul’s own Discounts page doesn’t mention teachers or ID.me.
Read that ID.me sentence narrowly, because it describes what ID.me carries. The same page template says “We’re not aware that Uhaul offers Military discounts,” and gives matching answers for students, nurses and first responders. U-Haul’s own Military page still describes a military program. So ID.me’s answer tells you there’s no ID.me route, not that U-Haul never discounts anything.
How To Get The U-Haul Teacher Discount
You can’t, as far as either page shows, and we’d rather say so than send you hunting for a code. U-Haul’s own pages do list a few things that could still lower a teacher’s moving bill.
On the Discounts page, storage gets a 1-year price lock (“Monthly storage price remains the same for your first 12 months”) and “One Month Free Storage at participating locations when you rent a truck or trailer one way.” Boxes get free standard shipping on qualifying orders of $50 or more within the contiguous U.S., and U-Haul says “We will buy-back any unused U-Haul box, with receipt, at any U-Haul center nationwide.” None of those lines names a group of customers. The free month applies at participating locations only, so ask your pickup location before you count on it.
What U-Haul Says You Need To Rent A Truck
With no discount to chase, it helps to know what the counter will ask for. U-Haul’s rental requirements article says you “must show a current, government-issued driver’s license that isn’t expired,” plus “a second form of ID (ex: U.S. passport, military ID, or employer identification).” Employer identification is on that list, but U-Haul doesn’t say whether a school badge counts, so ask if a badge is the second ID you have.
On age, the article says “you only need to be 18 years old,” and on licensing, “You only need a standard driver’s license.” If a colleague or family member shares the driving, U-Haul says it doesn’t charge extra for additional drivers, who “must meet the same requirements: hold a valid license, be at least 18 years of age, and present a second form of ID.”
Two more lines from that article. On reserving: “You should reserve ahead of time to make sure you get the size equipment and rental time you need.” On coverage: “damage coverage is optional. If you decline it, you’ll be financially responsible for any damages, so check whether your auto insurance or credit card covers truck rentals before you decline.”
Groups U-Haul Does Name
U-Haul’s Military page says “All service members are eligible to receive one month of free storage at your destination,” with a footnote tying it to “one-way truck or trailer rentals,” the same condition the general offer above names. Its Collegeboxes service lists “Save Up to 40%” on shipping for students, not on truck rentals. The Discounts page also lists hotel discounts booked with a corporate ID number: Choice Hotels at 15% off, Motel 6 and Studio 6 at 15% off, and Wyndham at 10% off. The page doesn’t say you need a U-Haul rental to use them.
If You’re Comparing Truck Prices
Budget’s own offers page carries “Save 20% on a one-way or local moving truck rental from Budget Truck,” with no mention of teachers. ID.me’s Budget page lists a car rental offer, and none of its offers mention trucks. Our Budget teacher discount post covers the car side.
