SEA LIFE at Mall of America offers teachers one Anytime Membership for $20, but you can only claim it in person. You show proof of employment, like a school ID badge, at the Guest Service Desk when you arrive, so it’s a walk-up deal rather than something to book from your couch.
SEA LIFE at Mall of America is the aquarium inside the mall, and its own school visit page describes 11 exhibits, thousands of creatures and over 200 species. If you’re the teacher who ends up planning the class trip, a $20 membership gives you a way to look the place over before you commit a bus and a permission slip to it.
How To Get The SEA LIFE At Mall Of America Teacher Discount
Go to the SEA LIFE Guest Service Desk when you arrive and ask for the teacher membership. SEA LIFE’s promotions page says teachers can receive one Anytime Membership for $20, and that you must provide valid proof of employment, like a school ID badge, upon arrival. Its offers page lists teachers under walk-up discounts, which fits: we didn’t find an online ticket for this one.
The page doesn’t say how long the membership lasts or exactly what it includes, and it warns that promotional and discounted tickets are limited and may not be available in every entry time. For comparison, the annual pass page lists a new pass at $59 per person and a renewal at $39, with unlimited admission, but it doesn’t use the Anytime Membership name. We can’t say the two are the same product, so ask the desk what you’re getting before you hand over the $20.
Planning A Class Trip Instead?
The teacher membership is for you, not your class. For a school group, SEA LIFE lists discounted rates for organized, local school groups serving K-12. The school year rates are $7.50 plus tax per student and $10.50 plus tax per teacher or chaperone, and you get one free chaperone or teacher for every five students. You need at least 10 paid student tickets to get the group rate, and reservations must be pre-paid at least 14 days in advance. SEA LIFE also notes that some holidays and weekends may have higher prices.
Tax exempt school groups send a copy of their MN tax exempt document to SEA LIFE to get booking instructions. Optional educational workshops cost an additional $3 per student, and SEA LIFE provides free pre-visit and post-visit activities for teachers to use in the classroom, which are worth printing even if you skip the workshop.
Q&A
Can I buy the teacher membership online?
We couldn’t find an online option. The promotions page says to show proof of employment at the Guest Service Desk when you arrive, and the offers page files teachers under walk-up discounts.
What counts as proof of employment?
The page asks for valid proof of employment and gives a school ID badge as the example.
Can I get more than one?
The page says teachers can receive one Anytime Membership, so plan on one per teacher.
Is the teacher membership the same as the annual pass?
We couldn’t confirm that. The annual pass page lists a new pass at $59 per person and a renewal at $39, but it doesn’t use the Anytime Membership name, so ask at the desk.
How much does a school group visit cost?
The school year rates are $7.50 plus tax per student and $10.50 plus tax per teacher or chaperone, with a 10-student minimum and one free adult for every five students.
Does this work at other SEA LIFE locations?
The membership is described on the Mall of America page only. Each SEA LIFE aquarium runs its own offers, and Orlando has a separate Florida Teacher Pass that we cover on our SEA LIFE Orlando page.
More Information:
Everything above comes from SEA LIFE’s own Mall of America pages for promotions, offers, annual passes and school visits, as they loaded when we checked. Offers and prices change, so confirm at the desk before you go. If you’re heading to Florida instead, see our SEA LIFE Orlando teacher discount page.
