Creative Cloud Pro runs US$69.99 a month at the regular rate. The education price is US$19.99 a month for the first year on the annual plan billed monthly, and that gap is where the 71% comes from.
At renewal it becomes US$39.99 a month. Adobe states that the membership “is valid for one year at the first year reduced price”, and that it will “auto-renew at the standard student and teacher subscription rate, which is still discounted off regular Adobe Creative Cloud”. So year two is still well under the regular price, but it is double year one and it renews on its own unless you change it.
Adobe offers both billing shapes at the education rate: “Students and teachers can choose either to pay the entire year in full up front or be billed monthly.”
