Verified teachers can get Kindle e-readers at up to 30% off regular prices through ID.me, according to ID.me’s store page for Amazon Devices. That page also lists up to 2.0% cash back. Amazon’s own Kindle Paperwhite page doesn’t mention teachers or educators, so the offer lives on the ID.me side and not at Amazon’s checkout.

How To Get The Kindle Teacher Discount
Start from ID.me’s Amazon Devices store page. Its Teachers line reads “Teachers save up to 40% Off! Enjoy Amazon Devices with savings,” and the Kindle line says Kindle e-readers are up to 30% off regular prices. ID.me’s teacher page for Amazon Devices says Amazon Devices has a Teachers discount and/or cash back offer. You’ll need an ID.me account with your teacher status verified. The store page also says some devices have limitations on purchase quantities and that additional restrictions may apply.
What Amazon Shows Anyone
We read Amazon’s Kindle Paperwhite page and found no teacher or educator offer on it. The 16 GB model was listed at $199.99 when we looked. Amazon does show a few savings that anyone can use: 20% off with Trade-In, a pre-owned device for up to $20.00 less (tested by Amazon), and an option that comes with 3 months of Kindle Unlimited. There’s also a choice between an ad-supported device and one without lockscreen ads.
ID.me’s listing says up to 30% for Kindle e-readers in general, and we didn’t see which models or what price the Paperwhite lands at, so compare the two prices on the model you want before you decide.
Cash Back Routes We Checked
ID.me lists up to 2.0% cash back on Amazon Devices. For other portals, TopCashback’s Amazon page says items eligible for cash back include Kindle e-readers, and we didn’t take a rate from it, so check the number on the page the day you buy. Rakuten’s Amazon page invites you to shop Amazon Kindle and earn cash back, and its terms describe a $5 cash back offer on eligible Amazon orders through the browser extension or the app. Those same terms say cash back isn’t available on subscriptions, digital purchases or gift card purchases, so Kindle books and a Kindle Unlimited sign-up don’t earn it.
Fluz lists a Kindle page titled “1.5% cashback at Kindle” that works with a Fluz virtual card, and a separate Amazon page that sells gift cards for 3% cashback. We didn’t test paying for a Kindle with either one, so read the terms on those pages first. You can start from our Fluz page, TopCashback page or Rakuten page. We didn’t test whether cash back from one portal can be claimed on top of the ID.me offer.
If You Mostly Want Something To Read
If what you’re after is a reading subscription and not a device, Scribd is one that does have an educator price, and we cover it in our Scribd educator plan post. What We Couldn’t Confirm
The Kindle offer comes from ID.me’s listing, and Amazon’s own pages that we read don’t state it. We didn’t verify an ID.me account or place an order, so we haven’t seen the discounted price at checkout or how cash back tracks on a Kindle. We didn’t sign in to Amazon either, so we can’t tell you what a Kindle costs on your account.
