Choice Hotels doesn’t have a confirmed teacher discount. The rate menu on its own deals page lists AAA, AARP, senior, military, government and group rates, and there’s no line for teachers or educators. We also couldn’t find a Choice Hotels page on ID.me, so there’s no ID.me statement to point to either way. If you were hoping a school ID would knock something off a Comfort Inn or Quality Inn stay, this page lays out what Choice does offer so you can plan around it.
Choice Hotels International says it has over 7,500 hotels and more than 650,000 rooms in 46 countries and territories, spread across 22 brands from economy to upper upscale. Its deals page names Comfort, Quality Inn and Cambria Hotels among them. Choice also says the Radisson brands, including Park Plaza, Country Inn & Suites and Park Inn by Radisson, are owned in the Americas by Choice, and our Radisson page covers those hotels. Choice states that all hotels and resorts listed on its site are independently owned and operated, so your hotel’s front desk has the last word on anything the rate menu doesn’t spell out.
What’s Actually Available
The everyday discounts on Choice’s rate menu are for AAA/CAA and AARP members and for older guests. AAA/CAA and AARP members save up to 10% at participating hotels, and each rate needs a valid membership card at check-in. The senior rate says a guest age 60 or older must be in the room. Reward nights, which you pay for with Choice Privileges points, list no blackout dates.
Three more rates are for government and military travelers. The military and veterans rate covers leisure travel for eligible people and their dependents, and you must be a Choice Privileges member to get it. The government and military rate is reserved for official business travel, and the page says it’s only for federal employees. The state government rate says to bring your City, County or State Government ID when you stay in the state where you work, and it’s for official business too.
None of those descriptions mentions teachers, educators or school districts. The state government rate comes closest because it names city and county IDs, but whether a school district ID counts is a question only the hotel can answer, and the rate is meant for official business, not a personal getaway.
If You’re Booking For A Group
Choice does have a group rate for 10 or more rooms, and it’s the one place its pages come near a school trip. The group request form asks you to pick a type of travel, and the list includes Education, Band, School Band, Youth Sports Team and Tour. Choice says its Group Sales Department will contact you within 24 hours, Monday through Friday, and you can call 1-800-544-4444 instead. A card is required to hold the rooms, but Choice says it won’t be charged at this time.
We didn’t find a group discount printed anywhere, so the form gets you a quote, not a guaranteed percentage. If you’re organizing a band weekend or a team trip and need ten rooms or more, it’s the route with a real person attached, and asking is the only way to find out what the number is.
Why This Is A Clean No
Choice’s deals page, its rate menu and its Choice Privileges page describe AAA, AARP, senior, military, government and group rates and never mention teachers. With no ID.me page to check, this no rests on Choice’s own pages. We didn’t find a standing, advertised educator rate that takes a school ID or a recent pay stub at check-in, and the rate that comes closest, the group rate, needs ten rooms. If you’re set on trying, call the hotel you plan to book and ask what it can do for a school employee.
Booking A Choice Stay Anyway
Choice Privileges is free to join, and the deals page says you can save 10% or more when you book direct with Choice Hotels. Reward nights start at 8,000 points at participating hotels with no blackout dates, and the rewards page adds a combination option for U.S. bookings: as little as $17 plus 6,000 points. Those are open to any member, teacher or not.
Choice also runs a lowest price guarantee. If you find a lower, publicly available rate for the same hotel on another website, Choice says to tell it within 24 hours of booking and at least 48 hours before 6 AM on your arrival date. After it verifies the price, it says it will match it, and U.S. or Canadian residents also get a $50 reward card after the stay. Terms and conditions apply, so read them before you rely on it.
Where A Teacher Rate Does Exist
If the goal is a confirmed hotel discount for teachers, our Hotels.com teacher rate and Expedia teacher discount pages cover the 10% teacher discounts through ID.me, each with a $40 savings cap and its own conditions. Search either one for your destination and see whether the hotel you want is listed, since we haven’t confirmed that any particular Choice hotel is.
If you belong to a teachers’ union, its travel page is worth a look too. The AFT lists hotel discounts at Wyndham (20% off the best available rate at over 9,000 participating hotels) and Hilton (12% chain-wide), plus Union Plus savings through Priceline of up to 50%. NEA Travel says members can get up to 60% off hotels worldwide with Savings Dollars, and our NEA Travel page has the details. None of those pages names Choice Hotels, so check the listing for your hotel.
Q&A
Do Comfort Inn, Quality Inn or Cambria have a teacher discount?
The rate menu we read is for Choice Hotels as a whole and doesn’t split the answer out by brand. If you’re booking a Comfort Inn, a Quality Inn or a Cambria, ask that hotel.
Can a teacher use the state government rate?
Choice’s page says to bring a City, County or State Government ID and to stay in the state you work in, for official business travel. It doesn’t mention school districts, so ask the hotel, and know that it isn’t meant for a personal trip.
Can I get a group rate for a school trip?
Choice has a group rate for 10 or more rooms, and its group request form lists Education, Band, School Band, Youth Sports Team and Tour among the types of travel. Submit a request or call 1-800-544-4444 for a quote.
What do I need to use the AAA or AARP rate?
Choice’s rate descriptions say a valid AAA/CAA or AARP membership card is required at hotel check-in, and that members save up to 10% at participating hotels.
Does joining Choice Privileges cost anything?
No. Choice’s pages say it’s free to join.
Is there a cash-back option for Choice bookings?
We couldn’t find a Choice Hotels page on ID.me, so no ID.me cash back rate could be confirmed. A general hotel platform with a confirmed teacher rate, like Hotels.com, is a more reliable route.
Should I still ask at the front desk?
It doesn’t hurt to ask, but there’s no confirmed corporate program backing up a yes.
More Information:
The rate types, AAA and AARP terms, group request details, lowest price guarantee wording and Choice Privileges details are from Choice Hotels’ own deals page and Choice Privileges page. choicehotels.com wouldn’t load for our direct fetch, so both were read from archived copies and may not match what’s live today. The company figures, brand names and ownership wording are from Choice’s media center. We couldn’t find a Choice Hotels page on ID.me, and the teacher discount addresses we tried for it returned a 404. The union figures are from the AFT, NEA Travel and Union Plus hotel pages, and the Hotels.com and Expedia figures are from our own posts on each. Terms can change, so check back if you’ve heard otherwise from a specific hotel.
