Expedia is an online travel site where you can book hotels, flights, rental cars and bundled packages in one place. It’s one of the three brands on Expedia Group’s Travel with us page, alongside Hotels.com and Vrbo, and Expedia Group’s About us history also names Orbitz, Travelocity, HomeAway and Hotwire. That matters when you’re planning a trip, because the sister sites don’t all treat teachers the same way. On ID.me, Expedia and Hotels.com list a hotel discount, and Vrbo, Travelocity and CheapTickets list cash back only.
How To Get The Expedia Teacher Discount
- Verify as a teacher on ID.me. ID.me describes these offers as savings for “verified Teachers community members.”
- Open Expedia’s listing in ID.me Shop and click through from there. ID.me’s fine print says the transaction has to go through its link for the coupon code to be valid, so start from the ID.me listing and not from Expedia’s homepage.
- Search for a hotel by itself, not a flight-and-hotel bundle, and prepay when you book. ID.me says the offer is for select hotels and doesn’t list which ones, so check the total before you pay.
The discount is applied online when you book, and ID.me’s fine print doesn’t mention anything to show at check-in.
The $40 Cap And What It Means For Your Trip
ID.me’s fine print lists a maximum of $40 in savings. At 10%, you reach that cap on $400 of hotel spend. A two-night weekend at $200 a night gets the full 10%. A week at $175 a night comes to $1,225, where the cap holds your discount to $40 instead of $122.50, which works out to about 3.3%. That’s still money off, and it’s worth running your own numbers against Hotels.com’s listing (also 10%, also a $40 maximum on its ID.me page) and against booking direct before you commit.
Cash Back Is Listed Too
The same ID.me page lists up to 2.5% cash back at Expedia, and its breakdown by category runs up to 2.5% on Conventional Lodging, up to 1.5% on Vacation Rental, up to 1.0% on Car, up to 1.0% on Package and up to $1.00 on Flight. It applies only to stays that are completed, it may not post until 30 to 40 days after you travel, and using a coupon or promo code may void it. ID.me’s page doesn’t say whether one booking can earn both the 10% and the cash back, so check the offer screen before you book instead of counting on both.
