Pat Catan’s doesn’t have a teacher discount, because the stores don’t exist anymore. Michaels, which owned the chain, announced in 2019 that it was closing every Pat Catan’s store.
Pat Catan’s was a craft and art supply chain with 36 stores in Ohio and the states around it, the kind of place a teacher might have gone for poster board, paint and bulk supplies for a classroom project. Michaels bought it in 2016 along with its parent company, Lamrite West, which was mostly a wholesale business. If you remember a Pat Catan’s teacher discount, it went away with the stores.
How To Get The Pat Catan’s Teacher Discount
You can’t. In its announcement, Michaels’ chairman and CEO said: “After a comprehensive review, we have decided to close all of the Pat Catan’s retail stores.” The company planned to rebrand and reopen around 12 of the locations as Michaels stores, and the rest were closed. The pat catans website address we tried now returns a “404 Not Found” page.
If there was a Pat Catan’s near you, the closest replacement is the Michaels educator discount, which has its own verification steps and terms. A few of the old Pat Catan’s buildings became Michaels stores, so check whether yours is one of them.
What Happened To The Chain
Michaels said Pat Catan’s projected about $111 million in net sales for its 2018 fiscal year, so this wasn’t a tiny shop quietly closing. The CEO explained that Michaels had bought Lamrite West for its wholesale division and its sourcing office in China, and that the Pat Catan’s stores had been run as outlets for that wholesale business. “The Pat Catan’s retail business has struggled in the face of industry headwinds,” he said. Michaels kept a support center and a distribution center in Strongsville, Ohio, to support the wholesale side, so the company behind the name still exists even though the stores don’t.
What We Couldn’t Confirm
We couldn’t find a written Pat Catan’s teacher discount from when the stores were open, so we can’t say what the rate or the rules were. We also haven’t confirmed which of the rebranded stores opened, only that Michaels said it intended to reopen up to 12 under its own banner. Check the Michaels store locator for your town if you’re looking for a particular old location.
