The Minnesota Historical Society (MNHS) takes $10 off a Basic Membership for active K-12 teachers, administrators and homeschoolers. It’s a membership discount, not a ticket price. The museum’s hours and admission page lists no teacher category, so the way to use this is to buy the membership, which comes with free general admission to all 26 MNHS historic sites and museums for a full year.
If you’d be at the History Center in St. Paul more than a few times in a year, or you’d take your own family out to the society’s other sites, a membership with the teacher code applied is worth a minute of math. Here’s how the code works, what each level costs, and where the offer stops.
How To Get The Minnesota History Center Teacher Discount
Go to the MNHS membership page, choose a Basic Membership level and log in. The page says you’ll then be prompted to enter “teacher” in the promo code field before you click Purchase Now. The code comes off the price as a single $10 discount.
The page says only one discount can be applied per membership, and the same $10 discount is offered to teachers and seniors, so you can’t take both. It also lists no end date for the offer.
What Each Basic Level Costs
The page lists Individual at $65 for one named adult and Individual Plus at $85, which adds admission for one additional guest. Household is $105 for two named adults, and Household Plus is $135 for two named adults. With the $10 off, that works out to $55, $75, $95 and $125.
Adult admission at the museum is $15, so the discounted Individual membership at $55 covers itself on the fourth visit to the History Center. The membership page also says members get a 20% discount on ticketed events at MNHS sites in Minnesota.
Who Qualifies
The page defines teachers for this discount as active K-12 teachers, administrators and homeschoolers. It doesn’t mention substitutes, retired teachers or college faculty, so ask MNHS before you count on the code if you’re in one of those groups. The discount applies to Basic Memberships only.
What Everyone Else Pays
Single-visit admission is $15 for adults, $12 for seniors 65 and older, veterans, active military and college students, and $8 for children ages 5 to 17. There’s no teacher line on that list. The site’s “Teacher Memberships” tile says “Discounted admission for educators,” which can read like a ticket discount, but it points to the membership discount described above.
Bringing A Class
The group tickets page lists an adult group rate of $12 per person for groups of 15 or more, scheduled two to four weeks ahead. Tickets include the regular exhibits, and the group leader and the motor coach operator get in free. The page says additional discounts, coupons or offers don’t apply to group tickets, so the teacher code isn’t a way to lower a class rate. To reserve, call 651-259-3003 or use the email address listed on that page.
The 6th Grade History Pass is a separate offer for students, and the pass page says it isn’t valid for school or organizational field trips.
What We Couldn’t Confirm
The page names no document check, so we can’t tell you whether MNHS verifies that you teach after you enter the code. It shows Join and Renew on each level but doesn’t say whether the teacher code works on a renewal. The group page lists an adult rate and doesn’t say what a student rate is, so call before you book a class.
