The Texas State Aquarium at 2710 North Shoreline Boulevard on Corpus Christi island boasts thousands of animals from more than 300 species. Visitors can explore interactive exhibits designed to enchant, educate and inspire – from shorelines to deep ocean depths – while conservation programs also exist at this facility.

The aquarium has made wildlife rescue and rehabilitation the cornerstone of its operations, featuring a state-of-the-art animal care and recovery center that features one of only two wildlife-dedicated CT scan equipment in Texas’ Coastal Bend region. Equipped to treat various animals such as sea turtles, including Kemp’s Ridley turtles which are endangered as well as manatees – two endangered species found nearby at its location! The facility is open to the public.

The Aquarium has also teamed up with Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi to offer an innovative new course devoted to marine wildlife care and conservation, the first course of its kind in the nation. Students in the class will have an opportunity to gain hands-on experience working directly with marine creatures at the aquarium; learning feeding, cleaning, training and animal husbandry skills before applying their knowledge in the field and potentially saving animal lives or working alongside veterinarians to aid recovery for animals returning either back into captivity or back out into nature.
