Science World in Vancouver gives British Columbia teachers two free general admission visits per year through its Teacher Preview Pass, and BC teachers also get 10% off regular priced items at the Science Store. The pass is for teachers who pay annual fees to the BC TRB, and it can’t be used during a class field trip.

If you’re planning a class trip, those two visits are yours to scout with. The Teacher Perks section on the educators page says many teachers use them to preview Science World and plan field trips, so you can walk the floor yourself before you put a busload of students on the calendar.

How To Get The Science World Teacher Discount

There are two separate perks on that page, and they work differently. For the Teacher Preview Pass, you present your ID at admissions on the day of your preview visit to gain entry. The field trip page says the pass is for teachers who pay annual fees to the BC TRB, and that it covers general admission only, since special exhibition fees aren’t included. The ticketing FAQ lists the BC Teacher’s Preview Pass among the passes and discounts that can only be applied in person.

For the Science Store discount, the page says to come in person or call 604-443-7580 to receive your discount code, and to have your Teacher ID ready. The 10% applies to regular priced items, and the page says it works in-store and online.

What The Preview Pass Doesn’t Cover

The pass is for previewing, and Science World’s own field trip FAQ says so plainly: Teacher’s Preview Passes can’t be used during a field trip. The ticketing FAQ adds that the offers on its in-person list aren’t valid for group or school bookings and can’t be applied to After Dark or Twilight Tuesday tickets. Special exhibition fees aren’t part of the two free visits either, so if a special exhibition is running on the day you go, that fee is separate.

What A Class Trip Costs

When you bring the whole class, the field trip page lists its own rates. They’re in Canadian dollars (CAD) plus GST. Student admission is $15 +GST. One teacher or chaperone is free for every five students, and each additional teacher or chaperone is $15 +GST. A student workshop is $4.95 +GST, and the workshop fee for teachers and chaperones is free. The page says both teachers and parent volunteers count as chaperones, and that the number of free chaperones is rounded down.

If the per-student rate is more than your school can cover, the same page says eligible schools can apply for admission and transportation support through its field trip bursary program.

What We Couldn’t Confirm

The Teacher Perks section doesn’t say whether anyone can come with you on a Preview Pass visit, so we can’t tell you whether a family member would pay full price. It doesn’t list blackout dates for the pass, and it doesn’t say what counts as your Teacher ID for the Science Store code. It also says two visits “per year” without saying whether that means a calendar year or a school year, and it describes the pass for teachers who pay annual fees to the BC TRB without mentioning retired or substitute teachers. If any of that matters for your plans, ask Science World before you make the trip.
