SEA LIFE Kansas City doesn’t list a standing discount for teachers. What it has run is a Teacher Appreciation Month event that gave teachers free entry plus 30% off for up to six friends and family, and that event has ended. The aquarium’s own promotional offers page says seasonal offers such as Teacher or Healthcare Appreciation, Scout Week and Homeschool Days are listed under Events & Experiences.
If you’ve got a free weekend and a few of your own people to bring, it’s worth knowing how the event was set up so you can spot it when it comes around again. If you’re planning a class trip, the Schools page lists group rates, and those come with a Missouri catch we cover below.
How To Get The SEA LIFE Kansas City Teacher Discount
Right now there’s no teacher discount to claim. The offers page lists the current ticket deals and doesn’t include a teacher offer, and the event page for Teacher Appreciation lists a one-month window that has passed. The aquarium’s way of telling you about a future one is the Events & Experiences section, which its promotional offers page points to for seasonal offers.
The Schools page also invites you to subscribe to its Educator Newsletter, which it says will keep you in the know of any special offers, educator event invites, friends and family discounts, giveaways and more. If you want to hear about a teacher event before the day it starts, that’s the list to be on.
How The Teacher Appreciation Event Worked
The event page says teachers received free entry plus 30% off for their friends and family, up to six guests, and that the offer was walk up only. To redeem the free teacher ticket you had to buy a 30% off Friends and Family ticket, so the free entry came paired with at least one discounted ticket for a guest.
Teachers had to provide a Teacher Employer ID or Pay Stub at admissions. Tickets were limited and had to be purchased on site, and the page lists children under 2 as free. Nothing on the page said the offer would repeat, and no future dates are posted there.
School Group Rates
The Schools page says discount rates are available for organized, local school groups serving children K-12, who must submit a tax exempt form with booking or show proof of school ID at check-in. School-year rates are $8.50 plus tax per student and $10.50 plus tax per adult, with one free adult for every 5 paying students and a minimum of 10 child tickets to get school rates.
The Missouri catch: the page says you must submit proper documentation upon booking and that the aquarium can only accept Missouri Tax-IDs. A school from outside Missouri should email the group booking address on the page, kc.slcgroups@merlinentertainments.biz, before counting on these rates.
A few booking rules are worth having in front of you. Reservations are required 7 days in advance, outside food and beverage, including bagged lunches, aren’t permitted, and groups that arrive without a reservation aren’t guaranteed entry and are charged the walk-up rate. An Education Workshop add-on is listed at $3.00 plus tax per student, and the workshop programs run 45 minutes for PreK through 12th grade. The page also offers free downloadable planning tools for your trip.
Visiting On Your Own
There’s no teacher rate for an individual visit. The offers page says booking your tickets online in advance guarantees the lowest prices compared to same-day purchases at the attraction, and that prices may vary based on demand and available capacity. The same page lists an AZA Reciprocal Discount, which is worth a look if you already hold a membership at another zoo or aquarium.
What We Couldn’t Confirm
The event page doesn’t say whether the teacher event will come back, and we didn’t find a new teacher offer announced on the offers page or the Events & Experiences pages when we checked. For school groups, the Schools page doesn’t say how a school outside Missouri documents tax-exempt status, so ask the booking address before you plan on the rates above.
