PetSmart’s own pages don’t list a discount for teachers. We read its homepage, its discounts and coupon help pages, its promotional terms and the Treats Rewards FAQ and terms, and none of them uses the words teacher, educator, student, classroom or school. What we could confirm is 4% cash back through Rakuten and through TopCashback, plus a free rewards program that’s open to any adult in the U.S.
If you’re stocking a class pet, buying for your own dogs and cats, or picking up a gift for a pet-loving friend, those are the savings on the table. Here’s what each one covers and the exclusions that catch people out.
How To Get The PetSmart Teacher Discount
There’s no teacher discount to claim, so there’s no teacher verification step either. PetSmart’s Discounts & online codes page says many online discounts will apply automatically to your order, and its coupon policy and promotional terms pages don’t mention teachers or classroom purchases either. We found no PetSmart page that mentions a teacher program or a teacher ID check, so there’s nothing for us to tell you to bring to a store.
What helps instead is going through a cash back portal before you check out. Rakuten’s PetSmart page lists 4% Cash Back, and the button below goes to Rakuten. Rakuten says Cash Back is not available on gift cards, Veterinary Care, Adoption services, Pharmacy items, items with a quantity over 100, donations or the portion of the order paid for by redeeming points or Treats Rewards.
Treats Rewards Is Open To Everyone
PetSmart’s Treats Rewards FAQ says enrollment is free. You must be age 18 years or older and a resident of the United States, including Puerto Rico, and membership is limited to individuals. The FAQ lists 10 points for every $1 spent in stores and online, including pet services like the Grooming Salon, PetsHotel with Doggie Day Camp and Dog Training. It also lists free Ship to Home on select orders $49+, and a profile completion bonus of 1,000 points, worth $2 in savings, the first time your profile is completed.
The FAQ says gift cards, shipping charges, bag fees, discounts including coupon discounts, taxes, tips and veterinary services are not eligible for earning points. Nothing in the FAQ or the program terms ties membership to being a teacher.
Promo Codes And Coupons
On the Discounts & online codes page, PetSmart says promotional codes need to be entered one at a time, and that using multiple promotional codes might void promotions that have already been applied. The coupon policy says coupons may not be valid with other discounts or offers, and that one coupon is permitted per purchase unless otherwise stated by the coupon. If you plan to use a code with a portal, read the portal’s terms first, because Rakuten says using coupon codes that are not listed on Rakuten will void Cash Back.
Cash Back Routes We Checked
Rakuten also says Cash Back is only available on one order per shopping trip and is not available on Autoship orders after the initial order, so it suits a single order better than a repeat delivery. TopCashback’s PetSmart page offers 4% of the price back. It lists purchases of pharmacy (Rx) products, item quantity greater than 100 and the use of a coupon code not displayed on TopCashback as exclusions, and it says that to be eligible for Cash Back on all products you must begin your purchase with an empty shopping cart.
Fluz’s PetSmart page is titled “Petsmart gift cards with 5% cashback,” so that rate is for buying PetSmart gift cards through Fluz rather than for ordering directly, and Rakuten lists gift cards among its exclusions. Rates move, so check the number on the portal before you pay.
What We Couldn’t Confirm
We read PetSmart’s pages on the web and didn’t call or visit a store, so we can’t speak to anything a local store might do on its own. We also didn’t place an order, so we can’t say how a promo code, Treats Rewards points and a portal’s cash back behave together at checkout. Rakuten’s page does say cash back isn’t available on the portion of an order paid for with points.
