The Maryland Zoo is home to animals from Maryland and beyond, but its true pride lies in animal conservation and rehabilitation work. Some of its notable programs include Polar Bears International, Project Golden Frog and African Black Footed Penguins. Furthermore, family-oriented activities at the Zoo such as playground equipment, vintage carousel rides and the Zephyr steam train replica can provide hours of family entertainment.

Visitors can interact with animals such as river otters, flamingos and alpacas in their natural environments. There are also educational exhibits like the Kids’ Farmyard and Penguin Education Center available for use by guests.

The Zoo is open year-round, though the display of animals varies with weather conditions. For example, during colder months some may remain indoors while polar bears, leopards, and crocodiles have outdoor enclosures to protect them from harsh elements. On extreme weather days please consult their website for updates.
