Maryland Science Center in Baltimore opens its Teacher Preview Day to Maryland teachers at no charge. The event page lists the price as “FREE with MD Teacher ID” and says “This event is free for Maryland teachers,” so it’s for Maryland teachers, and it’s a one-day event.
If you teach in Maryland and you’re thinking about booking a class trip, the day is built for you. The page says the center wants to be your go-to resource for all things STEM, and it invites you to connect with staff about how the Science Center can support you through its field trip offerings and outreach programs.
How To Get The Maryland Science Center Teacher Discount
Bring your MD Teacher ID. The event page says registration is encouraged, so sign up on the page before you go. Each registered teacher may also bring one guest for free, and additional tickets may be purchased for $15 each. The day runs from 10am to 4pm.
What The Day Includes
The page lists a run of stops. You can explore all three levels of hands-on exhibits and catch a live science show on the Demo Stage. The Meyerhoff Digital Planetarium shows its programs for school groups, and the SciLab has five different tabletop experiments.
There’s also a workshop on the science of flavor led by McCormick, and the Make makerspace, where you can try some school-group-friendly activities. That’s a good way to decide which station suits your own class before you book.
Field Trips For Maryland Schools
If you’re bringing a class, the field trips page says all Maryland students, teachers and chaperones can explore the core exhibits for FREE when visiting on a field trip, and that non-Maryland schools receive a discounted rate. The page says it plainly: all Maryland schools visit for FREE. It doesn’t give a price for the non-Maryland rate.
Visiting On Your Own
The tickets page doesn’t list a teacher price for an ordinary day. The event page points teachers to an Opportunities guide to learn about the programs the center is offering, and we couldn’t confirm that guide’s teacher details from a web page. If you want to know what your educator ID gets you on a regular visit, call the Science Center Operator at 410.685.2370 before you go.
What We Couldn’t Confirm
The event page says “MD Teacher ID” without saying what counts as one, or whether private school, homeschool, retired or substitute teachers are included. It doesn’t say whether the one free guest has to register too, and it doesn’t say whether Teacher Preview Day happens again, so check the event page for the next one. We also don’t know what the non-Maryland field trip rate comes to.
