The Blanton Museum of Art in Austin lets K-12 teachers in free with a valid district or school ID. The Plan Your Visit page lists K-12 teachers with ID as free in its admission table, where adults are $15, and the school visits page says teachers always receive free museum admission with a valid district/school ID.
If you’re planning a weekend with your own kids, or scouting the galleries before you bring a class, you can walk up with your ID and skip the ticket price. Tuesdays are free for everybody, so the teacher entry is worth the most on the other days, and we’ve laid out how the two fit together.
How To Get The Blanton Museum Of Art Teacher Discount
Bring a valid district or school ID to the museum. The admission table on the Visit page lists K-12 teachers with ID as free, and the School Visits page words it the same way: teachers always receive free museum admission with a valid district/school ID. The Visit page lists the Blanton at 200 E. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. in Austin, and it lists Monday as closed.
If you’re bringing family or friends, pick a Tuesday. The Visit page says every Tuesday visitors get free admission, provided by the Moody Family Free Day Endowment. On any other day, the table lists adults at $15 and doesn’t say the teacher’s guests get a reduction.
Who Counts As A Teacher
The table says K-12 teachers with ID, and the school visits page says teachers with a valid district or school ID. Neither page says public or private, certified or not, and neither names homeschool teachers, substitutes or college faculty. They name no state, residency or district requirement.
The Membership Discount
The Membership page says teachers get $10 off any level of membership, and you buy the discounted membership at the museum or by calling 512.471.9880. The Membership Levels page lists Individual at $75 and Dual at $110, and repeats that K-12 educators get $10 off.
Your own admission is already free, so the levels to look at are the ones that cover other people. The Family level is listed at $130 for two adults and all children and grandchildren 17 and under. The pages don’t print the discounted totals, so ask for the price when you call.
If You’re Bringing A Class
The School Visits page says gallery lessons are available to school groups with at least two weeks advance notice. School group visits are $5 per student, including on Tuesdays, and required chaperones and teachers accompanying the group are free. Additional adults pay the general admission price of $15.
The page says the Blanton can accommodate a maximum of 60 students and requires one chaperone per eight students. It also says Title I schools receive free admission for all students, along with a stipend to help cover bus transportation costs. For questions, the page lists info@blantonmuseum.org or (512) 471-5482.
What We Couldn’t Confirm
The pages don’t say whether you reserve a free teacher ticket online or show your ID at check-in, or which IDs count as a valid district or school ID. They don’t say whether substitutes, private school teachers, homeschool teachers or college faculty are covered, and they print no start or end date for the teacher entry beyond saying teachers always receive it. Nor do they say whether the $10 membership discount applies to renewals. For those answers, the museum lists (512) 471-5482, and the membership line is 512.471.9880.
