The Magic House

The Magic House doesn’t list a discount for individual teachers, but teachers are free when they bring a class on a guided field trip. The field trips page says schools visiting on a guided field trip are admitted for a special admission rate, plus teachers are free, and it lists that rate as $7.50 per student and chaperone.

If you’re a teacher planning a weekend outing with your own family, the admission page doesn’t list a teacher line, so you’d pay the regular price. If you’re planning a class trip to the museum at 516 S. Kirkwood Rd. in St. Louis, the school pricing below is what applies to you. We’ve kept the two apart so you can find yours quickly.

How To Get The Magic House Teacher Discount

The teacher benefit comes with booking a school field trip, not with showing an ID at the door. The field trips page says schools on a guided field trip get a special admission rate and teachers are free. It lists the rate for The Magic House as $7.50 per student and chaperone, and it lists the same $7.50 per student and chaperone for MADE for Kids.

The page asks for a minimum of one adult chaperone for every five children. For groups larger than the listed capacity, it says to reach out to educationinfo@magichouse.org. The guided programs include private exploration of a designated area of the museum, with the option to stay and enjoy free play throughout The Magic House until 12:00 pm. For questions about field trips, the page points to its FAQ and to the education team.

Public-Hour Trips For Groups Of 15 Or More

There’s a second school option. The school-year public hour field trip page says The Magic House offers a special group rate for groups of 15 or more, with the same minimum of one adult chaperone for every five children. It lists the time as 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and the cost as $7.50 per person, and it notes that all participants must submit payment as one single transaction.

That page doesn’t mention free teachers, so if you’re choosing between the two trip types, ask the education team whether a teacher pays on a public-hour trip.

A Free Field Trip For Your School

The field trips page also says your school may be eligible for a free field trip at The Magic House, and it links to information on scholarships. We didn’t read the scholarship terms, so the field trips page is the place to start if cost is what’s keeping your class home.

Visiting On Your Own

On an ordinary visit, the hours and admission page lists all-day admission at $15.00 for adults and children 1 and up, and children under 1 are free. The page says general admission tickets give you access all day, plus free and easy parking. It doesn’t list a teacher, educator or school ID discount.

It does list two price breaks for people who live in the area. The Magic House offers a $3 after 3 p.m. discount for families from its region: residents of St. Louis County, City of St. Louis, Jefferson County, Franklin County, St. Charles County, Warren County and Lincoln County can enjoy $3 admission per person from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m., and guests need to provide proof of residency. The second is Free Family Night, held every third Friday of the month from 5-8 p.m. The page says these nights let a family of up to two adults and four children visit at no cost, and proof of residency is required.

The membership page lists perks including private play sessions and discounts on special holiday events, and it doesn’t mention a teacher or educator discount.

What We Couldn’t Confirm

The field trips page says teachers are free, but it doesn’t say how many teachers a group gets, who counts as a teacher, or whether the same applies on a public-hour trip. It doesn’t name an ID or document to show. It also doesn’t say what the scholarship program for free field trips requires, and it doesn’t list a rate for a teacher who visits alone with a school ID. For any of those, the education team is the one to ask.
