Verizon Fios is the home internet provider with a teacher discount we could confirm: 10% off the monthly price of Fios home internet service, verified through ID.me. Fios is sold only in parts of the Northeast and mid-Atlantic, and for everyone else we didn’t find a teacher rate on a home internet plan.
That includes AT&T, Xfinity, Cox and Spectrum. This page points you to what we checked at each so you don’t have to open a handful of tabs to learn that.
How To Get The Internet Teacher Discount
If Verizon Fios reaches your address, Verizon’s Fios teachers FAQ says eligible teachers can get a 10% monthly discount on Verizon Fios home internet service. To qualify you need to be a currently-employed teacher, kindergarten to grade 12 or post-secondary instructor, and the FAQ says to choose Check eligibility and follow the prompts to validate your teaching status with ID.me. Verizon says it’s partnered with ID.me for fast verification of your teachers status. Our Verizon Fios post walks through the steps and the plans.
The FAQ says only active teachers are eligible, so retired teachers can’t apply. The button below goes to Verizon’s teacher page.
Where Fios Is Sold
The FAQ says Fios Home Internet is currently available in key metro areas in New Jersey, New York, Maryland, Delaware, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Virginia and in Washington DC. If your address is outside that footprint, the discount isn’t one you can use. The providers below are what we checked for everyone else.
AT&T Internet
AT&T’s teacher page says teachers can save up to 20% on its most popular unlimited plans, and those are wireless plans. For fiber, the only offer on the page is a bundle for new customers: $420 in savings based on combined discounts of $35/mo. on 5-GIG internet with eligible wireless service and eligible AutoPay and a paperless bill, in limited areas. That’s a bundle price, so it isn’t a teacher rate. Rakuten’s AT&T Internet page is titled with up to $40 cash back, and its terms say cash back is only available for new subscribers. Xfinity, Cox And Spectrum
We didn’t find a teacher discount at any of the three. Xfinity’s deals page is titled Xfinity Internet Deals and Promotions, and it has no teacher or educator wording in our read of it. Spectrum’s internet page lists fiber-powered internet starting at $30/mo. and has none either. Cox’s home page says Cox is now Spectrum. Optimum
We’re not listing an Optimum rate here. Optimum has a program page for students and educators, and we haven’t been able to confirm that K-12 teachers qualify for it, so we’d rather leave it out than point you at a discount you can’t count on.
What We Couldn’t Confirm
We checked the providers above, and we didn’t check regional ones such as Frontier or CenturyLink, so a teacher offer from one of those isn’t ruled out. We also didn’t place an order with any provider, so we can’t say what a plan costs at your address. Your own school or district may have an arrangement we couldn’t see, and a call to your provider’s sales line is a fair way to ask.
