Vooks gives teachers half off its storybook subscription: $4.99 a month or $24.99 a year, against the regular $9.99 a month or $69.99 a year. The price is on Vooks’ own educators page, whose headline reads “Vooks is 50% off for teachers!”
If you read the same few picture books aloud every week and wish you had something fresh to put on the board, this is the subscription teachers get at a lower price. Here’s how to sign up, who Vooks says qualifies, and the two places where its own pages don’t agree.
How To Get The Vooks Teacher Discount
Start on the Vooks educators page, which has a Create Teacher Account button. It shows the regular $9.99/month or $69.99/year next to the teacher $4.99/month or $24.99/year. Vooks’ pricing plans page describes the same deal as 50 percent off the monthly plan or 65 percent off the yearly plan.
The button takes you to Vooks’ teacher signup page, which says “As an educator, you qualify for special pricing of 50%+ off all Vooks plans to support learning in your classroom.” The page itself is short: that statement, an Agree & Continue button, and links to the Terms of Use and Privacy Policy. We found no ID check, school email requirement or proof-of-employment step on it or on the educators page, so as published the signup asks you to agree to the terms and nothing else. Vooks gives its reason for the rate this way: “We’re able to offer Vooks to teachers for 50% off due to the support of our parent subscriber base.”
If you remember Vooks offering teachers a free account, that option is gone. Vooks’ help center says it no longer offers a free teacher account, and that educators get special pricing instead. It also says an educator plan is for one device in your classroom.
If You Already Have A Vooks Account
This one catches people. The help-center article for existing accounts says that if there’s already a Vooks account on your email, even one from an old free trial, the educator signup can’t convert it, and you may see a message that your email is already in use. Vooks says it can switch the account for you. You submit a ticket using the email address on your Vooks account and tell it which plan you’d like, $24.99 a year or $4.99 a month. If you currently pay through Apple or Google Play, it says to cancel that subscription first so you aren’t charged twice.
Who Counts As A Teacher
Vooks doesn’t publish a definition. The signup page says “As an educator, you qualify,” and we found no grade level, school type or job title on the pages we read.
Homeschool is where Vooks’ own pages split. Its help-center article on teacher pricing says homeschool families aren’t eligible for educator pricing. The pricing plans page says there’s no separate homeschool plan and that homeschool parents qualify for teacher pricing as the teacher of record in their home. The help-center article carries the later date, so we’d lean on it, and if you teach your own kids it’s worth asking Vooks before you count on the teacher price.
Schools And Districts
The educator plan covers one device, so a school that wants every student on Vooks is a different purchase. Vooks’ schools and districts article lists student licenses at $10 per student, for use on their own device at school and at home. Teacher licenses, one classroom device each, run $24.99 each for 1 to 6 teachers and $10 each for 7 to 300. It says it accepts purchase orders for bulk orders, and that purchased student licenses can be rostered through Clever. To get a quote you submit a ticket with your school or district name and how many teachers and/or students you’d like to cover.
The form on the educators page still lists a minimum of 10 teacher licenses at $24.99 a year and a minimum order of 10 student units at $10 a year. That doesn’t match the 1 to 6 tier above, so ask Vooks which one applies to your order.
What Teachers Get
The educators page says Vooks was designed to get kids excited about reading. It lists Teacher Support Kits, which it describes as themed resources that provide five days’ worth of reading and activities for your classroom. It also has a Special Occasions section of seasonal activities, holiday-themed resources and activities for special occasions. The page says to sign up or sign in to access all Printables & Activities.
What We Couldn’t Confirm
The pages we read don’t say how Vooks checks that someone is an educator, whether the teacher price renews at the same rate, or when it ends. They don’t tie it to a holiday sale either. Vooks’ consumer pricing page has a Give the gift of Vooks! section and a Gift Vooks today! button, but it lists no teacher price, so we can’t tell you whether the teacher rate applies to a gift. We didn’t sign up, so we haven’t seen what comes after Agree & Continue.
