Verizon gives teachers 10% off their monthly mobile plan, and you verify through ID.me. Its teacher page lists the discount as a monthly price reduction applied to each eligible line, and says eligibility includes actively employed, certified or licensed K-12 and post-secondary teachers at a public or private school, college or university in all states.
The wording is narrower than a lot of retail discounts, so read it before you plan around it. Verizon Fios home internet has its own teacher discount, covered in a separate post.
How To Get The Verizon Teacher Discount
Verizon’s teacher page says that to qualify for a Verizon discount you need to authenticate yourself using ID.me, a secure identity verification tool. The Check eligibility button on that page opens ID.me’s authorization page with the teacher scope, so you’ll be signing in to, or creating, an ID.me account.
After you’re verified, new customers will see the discount option in the final step of the online order. The page says your discount won’t show up in your shopping cart, so don’t be alarmed when the first screens show the full price. Existing customers can register their existing account, and once verified can go to My Verizon, then Plans, then Applied Discounts, to see the savings.
What You Actually Pay
The mobile offer on Verizon’s page is 10% off, and the price shown includes a 10% monthly discount applied to each eligible line. The fine print caps it at a maximum of 12 lines. The advertised price for new customers switching to the Simplicity plan is as low as $27/line/mo., and that number depends on two other discounts: $10/mo for Auto Pay and paper-free billing, which requires enrollment within 30 days, and $15/mo for Switch & Save, which requires a smartphone line port-in or an uploaded mobile bill from an eligible carrier dated within the past 45 days.
So the 10% is the part that’s there for teachers, and the lowest price on the page also leans on the other two. ID.me’s Verizon store page lists the same thing from its side, that teachers save 10% with Simplicity.
Who Qualifies
The eligibility wording is actively employed, certified or licensed K-12 and post-secondary teachers at a public or private school, college or university in all states. The fine print adds that the offer excludes public employees involved in E-rate or other procurement decisions, or prohibited by applicable law, employment or ethical guidelines, and that approved verification documents are required.
If your teacher status changes, the page says your discount should continue for the remainder of the year without you having to take any action, and after that you need to reapply if you believe you qualify. It also says you may be prompted to re-verify your status periodically. You can combine the teacher discount with other offers, excluding nurse, student, first-responder and military discounts.
Mobile And Home Internet
The same page says teachers can save on mobile or home internet plans, and it lists Fios plans with its teacher discount alongside the mobile offer. Verizon Fios home internet has its own teacher discount, covered in a separate post, so this one stays with mobile.
How It Compares
AT&T’s teacher page fine print says to save 20% on Premium 2.0, 15% on Extra 2.0 and 10% on Value 2.0 plan lines of service, and our AT&T post covers how it checks you. Cash Back Sources
Rakuten’s Verizon page is titled with up to $75 cash back. Its terms say cash back is available to new customers, add a line, 5G Home and VerizonONE, and they exclude Bring Your Own Device, contract renewals (upgrades) and Prepaid services, as well as orders placed by phone or chat. Fluz lists 1.5% cashback at Verizon with a Fluz virtual card. We didn’t find a Verizon page on TopCashback at topcashback.com/verizon or topcashback.com/verizon-wireless.
We haven’t tested whether cash back and the teacher discount can be used on the same order, so check each program’s terms before you stack them.
What We Couldn’t Confirm
We didn’t complete the ID.me sign-in, so we can’t say which documents ID.me asks a teacher for, or how long it takes. We didn’t place an order either, so we can’t say how the discount reads on a first bill. The Simplicity price on the page is for new customers, and we couldn’t tell from the page how the 10% looks on a plan you already have.
