On Wednesday morning, the San Diego Fair Teacher Discount returned in full force with families carrying kids and strollers, young students huddling together into small groups, couples strolling arm-in-arm and smells of roast turkey legs roasting, kettle corn popping and deep-fried Oreos funnel cakes and Krispy Kreme ice cream sandwiches filling the air as people lined up at its main entrance – an atmosphere filled with celebration. Attendance numbers were comparable with last year but lower due to supply-chain issues and labor shortages.
Admission to the fair can be costly, but purchasing your tickets early can save money and reduce lines on entry days. Tickets for adults aged 13-61 in person cost $20 on Fridays-Sundays and July 4; $15 Wednesdays, Thursdays, and July 3, and children five years or under always gain free entrance. San Diego County Albertsons and Vons grocery stores offer special promotional codes online that save customers $3 per ticket when purchasing adult tickets through them.
Teachers, military personnel and first responders can take advantage of GovX to get discounted fair tickets. To qualify, show valid ID documents such as pay stubs or teaching credentials at one of Mission Federal Credit Union’s 30 local branches; purchase the Passport to Savings booklet which includes return tickets for $5 from any fairground ticket booth or online before visiting. Also present your same-day transit ticket or monthly Compass Card pass at West Gate (this gate being where all transit buses stop) to receive a $4 discount on admission ticket price.
