Birmingham’s Ross Bridge Golf Resort and Spa attracts visitors from near and far with its world-class course and luxurious accommodations, which attract visitors from faraway. Bessemer City Schools spent almost $30,000 when hosting their retreat there last year – the highest amount ever spent by any city district and the most costly retreat ever held at Renaissance Ross Bridge. Bessemer serves many financially insecure families; most students receive free or reduced lunches according to their family’s ability to pay.

Former Heritage at Ross Bridge teacher Susan Reimelts reported witnessing inappropriate employee conduct and high turnover, such as her son telling her one staff member grabbed and spun him around, yet no report was filed with either she or her supervisor about this event. Shortly thereafter she decided it no longer felt safe to work there and made her exit announcement shortly thereafter.
Another mother whose student attends Heritage at Ross Bridge also spoke out, telling CBS 42 she witnessed teachers behaving poorly towards children at Heritage. She expressed concern for the safety of her own child and expressed doubt as to whether or not the daycare has enough staff and support staff available to adequately care for all its attendees.
At this luxurious resort, accommodations range from the 408-square-foot Guest Room to a 1,389-square-foot Hospitality Suite – each boasting its own balcony and high-speed Wi-Fi access, with light wood furniture and stark white bedding with marble accents adorning each unit. In addition, guests have access to both indoor and outdoor pools as well as fitness facilities.
