The International Spy Museum, in Washington, D.C., doesn’t list a standing teacher discount. What it has for teachers is Educator Night Out, an evening open house that’s free for current K-12 classroom and resource teachers. The museum has run it more than once, and when we checked, no new one was posted on its events calendar.
If you’ve been wondering what a field trip here would actually involve before you commit a class to it, this is the evening built for that. You explore on your own, meet the education team, and leave with a welcome bag.
How To Get The International Spy Museum Teacher Discount
There’s nothing to sign up for right now, because the museum hasn’t posted the next one. When it runs, the page says advance registration is required, and that a valid educator ID is required at check-in. The IDs it lists are a school ID, a pay stub, a letter from your principal on school letterhead, a letter of intent to homeschool issued by a government agency or school district, or a union card.
The latest Educator Night Out page offers a waitlist, so plan to register early whenever the next one is announced. Questions go to educators@spymuseum.org, which is the address that page gives, and it’s the one to ask about the next date.
What The Night Includes
The page says registration includes free museum admission, a welcome bag, a chance to win prizes, SPY swag, and more. It describes an open-house event where teachers can get an exclusive look at rarely displayed artifacts, meet the Youth Education Team and learn about its award-winning educational programs, and learn how to book an in-person or virtual field trip. You can also browse free classroom resources, lesson plans and Digital Learning HQ, and the page lists a special educator discount at the SPY Store. Food and beverages aren’t provided, so eat first.
Who Counts
The page says the event is free for current K-12 classroom and resource teachers only. Each educator may bring one adult guest by buying a guest ticket for $25.00, and guests must be 18+. Montgomery County Public Schools teachers get a specific instruction: register with a personal email address rather than the official MCPS email.
Bringing A Class
The museum’s field trips page lists group rates instead of a teacher rate. School groups of 10+ get special rates, and requests must be booked 2 weeks in advance for the discount. The non-local school group rate is $16 per student and $24 per adult chaperone, and the local school group rate is $9 per student and $12 per adult chaperone. One adult chaperone is required for every ten students and receives complimentary admission. Title 1 schools get free admission and student workshops.
To book, you fill out the Field Trip Request Form, and the page says the Group Reservations Department will contact you within two business days.
Visiting On Your Own
The Visit page doesn’t list a teacher or educator admission rate. It recommends advance timed tickets, and warns that onsite timed tickets may be for a later time than your arrival or could be sold out for the day.
Cash Back Routes We Checked
Fluz lists 1.5% cashback at International Spy Museum with a Fluz virtual card, so the rate applies when you pay with that card. We didn’t test whether it works for a ticket purchase on the museum’s site. We didn’t find a TopCashback page for the museum, and Rakuten’s address for it loads a general page instead of a store page.
What We Couldn’t Confirm
The museum hasn’t posted when the next Educator Night Out will be, or whether it will keep the same format, the free admission and the $25.00 guest price. The event page doesn’t say where you register beyond requiring it in advance, and it doesn’t say whether the SPY Store discount applies outside the event.
