Spotify teacher discount: student plan only, with a Fluz cash back route Spotify teacher discount: student plan only, with a Fluz cash back route

Spotify doesn’t have a teacher discount that we could find. Its only discounted plan is Premium Student, and Spotify’s terms say it’s open to students at US Title IV accredited higher education institutions. The one route to paying less that we could confirm is Fluz, which lists 1.5% cashback at Spotify.

If you teach and you listen to a lot of music while you grade, you’ve probably seen the student price and wondered whether it stretches to you. It doesn’t, as far as Spotify’s own pages go. Here’s what they say, what plans are on offer for everyone, and where the small savings are.

How To Get The Spotify Teacher Discount

There’s no teacher rate to claim. ID.me’s Spotify page reads “We’re not aware that Spotify offers Teachers discounts,” and nothing on Spotify’s own student pages, support article or Student Tier terms mentions teachers, educators or faculty.

Premium Student is the discounted plan. Spotify’s support article says that with Premium Student, eligible college/university students get Premium at a discount for up to 4 years, and you need to renew and reverify every 12 months. Its Student Tier terms say use of the Student Tier is only open to students at US Title IV accredited higher education institutions in the US, and they name SheerID as the verifier. The support article adds that if your school isn’t listed in the verification form, you’re not eligible at this time.

On the student page, the plan is listed as free for 1 month and then $6.99 a month, and the offer is available only to students at an eligible accredited higher education institution who haven’t tried Premium before. If you’re also enrolled in a degree program, that’s the plan to look at. If you’re not, it isn’t one you can use.

The button below goes to Fluz, the cash back route we could confirm for Spotify.

The Plans Open To Everyone

Spotify’s Premium page lists Premium Individual at $0 for 1 month and then $12.99 a month, for people who haven’t tried Premium before. If you live with other people, the family page lists 6 Premium accounts for family members under one roof at $21.99 a month, and says it’s for families who reside at the same address. With two or more people sharing it, each person’s share comes out below the individual price.

The student plan currently includes Hulu with ads, according to Spotify’s own pages. That bundle is for students too, so if you’re wondering about a Hulu discount for teachers, our Hulu post covers what we found.

What The Cash Back Sources Say

Fluz. The Fluz Spotify page is titled “1.5% cashback at Spotify” and says you get 1.5% cashback on your purchases at Spotify. Fluz is where you buy a gift card or use a virtual card, so the cash back comes from how you pay and not from a change to Spotify’s price. Rates change, so check the number on Fluz before you pay.

Rakuten and TopCashback. We looked for Spotify on both. Rakuten’s address for Spotify loads its general page rather than a store page, and TopCashback has no Spotify page. We have no rate to report from either, and we’d rather say that than guess.

What We Couldn’t Confirm

We didn’t sign up, so we can’t tell you how a Fluz purchase shows up on a Spotify account. We also can’t say whether Spotify runs a school or district program somewhere that isn’t on its public pages, and a message to its support team is the way to ask.
