Philadelphia Museum of Art doesn’t list a teacher discount on admission, but it does take $30 off a membership for educators. The museum’s FAQ says it offers a $30 educator discount on the membership of your choice, Member through Patron levels, and that Teacher ID is required.
That fits a teacher who plans to come back through the year, or who likes bringing friends and family along at a lower price. If you’re planning a single visit, there isn’t a teacher rate to use, so below we also cover the free youth tickets and the first-Sunday Pay What You Wish admission.
How To Get The Philadelphia Museum of Art Teacher Discount
The FAQ says the offer is valid in person at the museum or by calling Members Services at 215-684-7840. Bring your Teacher ID either way, since the FAQ says it’s required. The museum’s school and educator page describes the discount as a token of appreciation and says it applies to any level of museum membership.
The FAQ doesn’t say what counts as Teacher ID. If you’re not sure what yours should be, call Members Services before you go in.
What A Membership Adds
The FAQ says all membership categories include an exhibition ticket and unlimited free general admission for all the children in your life, 18 and younger. It also says you can bring up to eight guests at a discounted general admission rate: $15 for an adult guest and $14 for a senior guest, with children 18 and under free. Special exhibitions may have additional fees.
Visiting Without A Membership
We didn’t find a teacher rate on admission. The FAQ answers its own “Do you offer discounts for teachers?” question with the membership discount and nothing else.
Two other items on the FAQ may help on a visit. Admission is Pay What You Wish on the first Sunday of the month. And youth 18 and under can visit at no cost, though the FAQ says everyone who enters the museum needs a ticket. Youth tickets can be reserved in advance online when you buy an admission ticket of value, or picked up in person at an admissions desk. Neither is a teacher offer, so they don’t need your Teacher ID.
For Your Classroom And Your Own Training
The school and educator page lists Free Virtual Visits for classrooms: it says each 30-minute program, designed for grades 5-12, is free and reached through live webinar broadcasts on Zoom.
For teachers, the page says the museum has hosted an intensive learning seminar every summer for nearly forty years, the Visual Arts as Sources for Teaching (VAST) Summer Seminar. It’s for active teachers working in classrooms or other educational settings, and it says you can earn Act 48 or NJ professional development hours. To find out when registration is open, the page says to sign up for the Educator Newsletter. The FAQ adds that the museum is a PA Act 48 and NJ Continuing Education credit provider.
The page also has a fee list for workshops at your school. It lists Philadelphia public and charter schools as free, and it lists $450 for a three-hour workshop for up to 30 teachers within 25 miles.
What We Couldn’t Confirm
The FAQ uses the words “educator” and “teacher” without saying who is included, and it doesn’t mention homeschool teachers or substitutes either way.
