Old Sturbridge Village in Massachusetts sells up to two adult tickets at half price to members of the Massachusetts Teachers Association and to adults who teach in New England. Those are the two groups its discounts page names, so a teacher from outside New England who isn’t an MTA member isn’t covered by what we read.
A half-price ticket is valid for general daytime admission only. It won’t work for special evening programs like Phantoms by Firelight or Christmas by Candlelight.
How To Get The Old Sturbridge Village Teacher Discount
Open the daytime admission discounts page and find the entry headed Massachusetts Teachers Association & New England Teachers. It has two parts. MTA members purchase up to two adult tickets at half price and must present a photo ID with their MTA card. Adults who teach in New England can also purchase up to two adult tickets at half price and must present a teacher photo ID card. The ID you bring depends on which group you’re in.
The page also says its discounts can’t be combined or applied to previous purchases, so the half-price tickets need to be how you buy from the start.
What The Half-Price Tickets Cover
The discounts page says these discounts are for general daytime admission only. The visit page lists adult daytime admission at $30.00 at the door and $27.00 online, and it says the $3 online discount can’t be combined with other discounts. The discounts page also gives a sense of what half price looks like there: its college-student line reads 50% off regular daytime admission, $15 instead of $30.
School Field Trips And Grant Funding
If you’re planning a class visit, the field trips page says Old Sturbridge Village offers grant funding to schools in several geographic regions throughout New England, as well as institutions with Title I status. It says you may be able to receive discounted admission for your students, and it asks you to reach out to find out if funding is available for your school. The page also invites educators to get in touch for a free visit to the Village to see if it’s right for your students.
The Teacher Open House
The Teacher Open House page lists the cost as free for teachers and one guest, with pre-registration required. The page we read describes a single day that has already passed, so we can’t say whether it will run again.
What We Couldn’t Confirm
The discounts page doesn’t say what counts as teaching in New England. It doesn’t give a grade range, and it doesn’t say whether private school teachers or retired teachers qualify. It also doesn’t say whether you can buy the half-price tickets online or only at the Visitor Center, or whether half price is figured from the $30.00 door price or the $27.00 online price, so confirm both with the Village before you go. The entry has no end date. For field trips, we couldn’t tell which schools qualify for grant funding, since the page sends you to ask.
