Teachers appreciate discounts just like everyone else, which is why the National Aquarium is offering teacher discounts for admission tickets and memberships. Teachers with valid school ID can take advantage of this program in person and save on souvenirs and books at the aquarium as well.
The aquarium’s mission is to promote conservation of aquatic treasures around the world through education programs, sleepovers, behind-the-scenes tours and other experiences. With more than 20,000 animals housed in award-winning habitats from all around the globe as residents and award-winning educational programming that reaches students, teachers and community members through on-site and virtual programs as well as teacher training workshops and outreach events, it strives to inspire conservation initiatives while inspiring their protection.
National Aquarium’s Director of Education is responsible for overseeing the planning, budgeting, implementation and evaluation of conservation education programs for schools, teachers and youth. She ensures that content, structure and strategies for the aquarium’s educational offerings align with Learning and Engagement Strategic Priorities as well as Conservation Action Plan Goals.
The aquarium’s new Seahorse Exhibit seeks to raise awareness about these endangered creatures and their fate, with millions harvested each year for use in traditional Chinese medicines or dried and sold as souvenirs. The display will explore international efforts undertaken to protect and breed this species while emphasizing the significance of protecting habitats for seahorses.
