Kentucky Science Center doesn’t list a discount for individual teachers. What it lists is school field trip pricing, from $5 to $20 per student depending on the package, and a reduced rate for chaperones who are booked through the school group process.

If you’re the teacher building a field trip budget, the page below has the per-student numbers you need. If you’re hoping to walk in with a school ID and get a teacher rate, that isn’t something the center lists.

How To Get The Kentucky Science Center Teacher Discount

There isn’t a teacher discount to ask for at the desk, so the way in is a booked school field trip. The field trips page describes a day of three floors of exhibits, a class and a movie on a 4-story screen, and you start by clicking Send Request to make a reservation online.

After you book, you review the confirmation and invoice. The page says that if you don’t receive a confirmation within 5 to 10 business days, you should call the field trips line to confirm the request form was received. The final headcount and payment are due 3 weeks before your visit date, and the page says the center can take payment over the phone or by mailed check.

The center’s field trip pricing page is where the numbers are. Kentucky Science Center memberships may not be used in conjunction with school field trips, so a family membership won’t reduce what your class pays.

What A Class Pays

The pricing page lists four packages, each with a per-student and a per-adult price. Exhibits, a movie and a class come to $20.00 per student and $10.00 per adult. Exhibits and a class are $17.00 per student and $10.00 per adult. Exhibits and a movie are $13.00 per student and $10.00 per adult. A movie on its own is $5.00 for students and $5.00 for adults, and lunch add-ons aren’t available with it.

Lunch is an add-on at $1.00 per student and $1.00 per adult, with a $50 flat rate fee for groups fewer than 50. Design Your Own Class requests may include an additional fee per student, based on content and materials. During school break periods the pricing is the same, but the page says only exhibits and movies are available then.

Chaperones And The Day Itself

The pricing page says chaperones receive a reduced rate through the school group booking process, and that chaperones who arrive day of without having pre-paid are charged full price. The chaperone guide adds that if the organization isn’t covering an adult’s admission, that adult should buy a full price ticket at the admissions desk or online before arriving.

Two details from that guide are worth passing to your parent volunteers. Adults should be assigned groups of no more than 10 students before arriving. And lunchroom capacity is subject to availability, so adults who buy tickets day of may not be accommodated in the lunchroom. Paid parking sits behind the building at $15 per car for non-members and $8 per car for members.

Visiting On Your Own

The visit page sells exhibit, exhibit plus movie and movie only tickets, and we didn’t find a teacher or educator rate on it, on the education page or on the chaperone guide. Annual memberships start at $139 for unlimited exhibit access, which is the route that makes sense if you plan to come back with your own family.

One membership option on the membership page is labeled as available only to social service agencies and not valid for schools or daycares, so it isn’t a way around the field trip pricing.

What We Couldn’t Confirm

The pricing page doesn’t say what the reduced chaperone rate is, or whether the per-adult column in the table is that rate. It also doesn’t say whether a teacher who comes with the class is priced as an adult. We didn’t read the center’s online ticketing site, so we can’t say whether it offers an educator code at checkout. Ask the field trips team when you book.
