Jamestown Settlement doesn’t list a discount for individual teachers. The visitor FAQ answers the question plainly: it doesn’t offer discounts on museum admission for teachers to Jamestown Settlement or the American Revolution Museum at Yorktown. What teachers do get is a complimentary chaperone admission with every 10 paid students on a guided field trip or a self-guided group visit.
Jamestown Settlement is a living-history museum of 17th-century Virginia history and culture, so a class trip fits easily into a social studies unit. If you’re hoping to walk in with a school badge and a cheaper ticket, that isn’t what the FAQ describes, and we’d rather tell you now than have you find out at the desk.
How To Get The Jamestown Settlement Teacher Discount
The perk comes with a group booking. The FAQ says teachers are eligible for one complimentary chaperone admission with every 10 paid students when purchasing a guided field trip or self-guided group visit. To book, you use the group reservation form, which is for tour operator, school and group planner-led groups of 15 or more guests. The same page says guided tours aren’t provided on Mondays, and that self-guided tours may be booked for any date.
The field trips page says the student programs are for groups of 15 students or more, and that guided program reservations are required at least three business days in advance and are subject to availability. It recommends booking at least four months ahead, which is worth raising with your grade-level team before you pick a date. The form can also be used to request in-classroom outreach programs (Virginia only) and virtual learning programs.
Visiting On Your Own
If you’re coming without a class, the discounts the FAQ lists aren’t built around teachers. The one that touches teachers is residency: teachers who are local residents of James City County, York County and the City of Williamsburg receive free admission with proof of residency. The FAQ says that applies to local residents generally, including William & Mary students, with proof of residency or student ID.
The other discounts work by age, service or income. Visitors age 62 and older receive 10% off a single museum general admission ticket with a photo ID, and military personnel and up to three direct family members with military identification receive 10% off single-museum general admission, though only on site. Museums for All covers SNAP EBT cardholders with free admission for up to four visitors per EBT card.
The museum is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily, except Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s days. The FAQ says to allow a minimum of two hours for a film, the galleries and the outdoor living-history areas. Parking is free, and there are dedicated areas for free bus and RV parking, which helps if you’re bringing a class.
Jamestown Settlement Is Not Historic Jamestowne
The FAQ says these are two different and distinct museums. Historic Jamestowne is the original site of America’s first permanent English colony, it’s 1.5 miles from Jamestown Settlement, and the FAQ says two tickets are required to visit all of it. A ticket to one doesn’t cover the other.
A National Park pass won’t help you at Jamestown Settlement either. The FAQ says the museum can’t honor it for admission and that a separate ticket purchase is required.
What We Couldn’t Confirm
We didn’t find a per-student price on the group reservation form or the field trips page, so we can’t tell you what a class trip costs. The group form page also says morning guided tours are sold out for some stretches of dates and asks groups to choose an afternoon reservation, so check it before you settle on a day. The FAQ words the chaperone perk as being for teachers, and we couldn’t tell whether any other adult chaperone counts toward it. We also didn’t find a cash back offer for tickets.
