How To Get The Intrepid Museum Teacher Discount

The member benefits page lists free admission year-round and special discounts for members, and it doesn’t mention teachers or educators either.
The savings for a teacher come from booking a school trip. You complete a Field Trip/Group Program Request form, and the field trips page says a Group Sales Representative will follow up to confirm the date and time. All reservation and payment information has to be received at least two weeks before your visit date, so start the request early.
Bringing A Class
The field trips page prices self-guided visits for all schools, and educator-led programs for NYC DOE schools, at $11 per person. The museum’s FAQ page lists the same rate as $10.50 per person, so ask Group Sales which figure applies when you send your request. For any other kind of group, the page says to inquire with Group Sales about pricing.
Groups need a minimum of 10 students to take part in on-site educator-led programs or to get group-rate pricing for self-guided visits. Every group receives one free chaperone for every 10 students. The page also says a limited number of free programs are available to New York City Department of Education public schools.
Visiting On Your Own
On a weekend with your own family, there’s no teacher rate to ask for. The tickets page lists adults (13-64) at $38, seniors (65+) and college students with valid ID at $36, and children (5-12) at $28.
If you live in the five boroughs, the FAQ page lists a bigger saving: NYC residents receive 50% off general admission when they present a valid government-issued photo ID with a printed address, or a current utility or mortgage statement with an address within the five boroughs and a name that matches their photo ID. The tickets page also says free and reduced tickets have to be picked up at the Box Office with the card or pass and a valid photo ID, and there’s no way to reserve them online in advance.
What We Couldn’t Confirm
The tickets page lists a Cultural Pass that allows up to 4 people and says to present an NYCDOE ID. It doesn’t say who holds one, and it never uses the word teacher or educator, so we can’t tell you whether the pass is meant for school staff. If you work for the New York City Department of Education, the Box Office is the place to ask.
The two Intrepid pages also disagree on school-trip details. The field trips page says the museum requires a minimum of 1 chaperone for every 10 students, while the FAQ page says 1 for every 15, and the per-person rate is $11 on one page and $10.50 on the other. Confirm both with Group Sales before you tell parents what the trip costs.
