Indianapolis Zoo doesn’t list a standing discount for teachers, but it does hold an Educator Appreciation Day. Its educator page says educators are free and can purchase discounted admission for additional guests for $15, and that preregistration is required. It’s one day at the zoo, not a rate you can use whenever you like.

If you’re picturing a zoo day with your own family, the guest price is what makes this one worth knowing about, because the day isn’t only for you. The part that takes patience is the timing: when we looked, the page said “Registration Coming Soon.”

How To Get The Indianapolis Zoo Teacher Discount

The educator resources page describes Educator Appreciation Day as a special day at the Zoo to celebrate educators, and says it wants to acknowledge and thank you for all you do for Indiana’s youth. Educators are free. Additional guests can purchase discounted admission for $15. Preregistration is required.

The page lists the day and hours for the event, so check it for the current ones before you plan around it. Registration hadn’t opened when we looked, so the first step is to watch that page and register once it does.

Who Counts As An Educator

The page just says “educators.” It doesn’t define the word, and it doesn’t name a school ID, a pay stub or any other proof you should bring. It doesn’t limit the day to Indiana either, but its thank-you note is written to educators for what they do for Indiana’s youth, so if you teach in another state, ask the zoo before you build a trip around it.

A Paid Program For Teachers

The same page lists a Conservation Educator Academy for professional educators, teachers, and pre-service teachers. It costs $70 per person, which makes it a training you pay for, not a discount. The page says you’ll collaborate with fellow educators, explore the Zoo, and create a visual journal to share with your students, over a three-day program that includes special zoo tours and experiences and hands-on STEM activities.

The page also says that professional development provided by the zoo comes with a certificate, and that each hour of professional development corresponds to one point towards an educator’s professional growth plan for state teacher license renewals. It links a School Program Guide too, for quick reference about everything the zoo offers schools and educators.

Visiting On Any Other Day

The tickets and hours page lists no teacher discount and offers group tickets for groups of 10+. The group tickets page says discounted prices are available with a minimum purchase of 10 tickets, and that arrangements must be made at least 2 weeks before your visit to qualify for the group rate. It lists 317-630-2051 for group packages. For field trips during the school year, the page sends you to a separate field trips link instead.

The page also says that through its e-ticketing program, companies, organizations and schools can enjoy the Zoo all year round at a discounted price.

Cash Back Routes We Checked

Fluz’s Indianapolis Zoo page lists 1.5% cashback at Indianapolis Zoo with a Fluz virtual card. It says the offer is valid only at official store locations, and that offers are subject to change, so check there before purchasing. Rakuten’s address for the zoo loads a general page titled Shop. Get Cash Back. Repeat. instead of a store page, and we didn’t find a TopCashback page for it.

What We Couldn’t Confirm

The page doesn’t say what you’ll show at the door, whether there’s a limit on how many additional guests can buy the $15 admission, or whether the day includes parking or any special experiences. It doesn’t say when registration opens beyond “Coming Soon.” We also didn’t find a teacher rate on the zoo’s ticket or group pages.
