Due to a nationwide teacher shortage, New Haven teachers are working tirelessly to fill classrooms. Their extra efforts have paid off for some. Magda Colon, a Spanish instructor from East Rock Community Magnet School who just won a $5,000 check from Honored Schools (a national nonprofit which hands out checks every month to teachers across the country and awards winners who know them personally) can attest to that fact.
Many stores and businesses provide discounts for teachers. Some require proof of employment such as pay stubs or educator ID cards; others provide teachers with their own account on their website offering exclusive offers and promo codes tailored specifically to educators. Here are a few popular ones:
Bookmans: Teachers can save 20% in-store at their local Bookmans when they sign up online for the Project: Education program, by bringing their teacher ID and confirmation email into the store (source). Apple: To qualify for their Education Discount in the Apple Store for Education they must verify eligibility using an active school or university email address (source).
Homeschool teachers may also qualify for discounts. Retailers such as Michaels and JOANN Fabric offer 15% teacher discounts. Staples and Office Depot allow homeschool teachers to sign up for educator accounts with purchases made at these stores; teachers present valid educator ID at time of purchase to earn points that can later be redeemed (source). CHFA also offers an additional 0.125% rate reduction when teachers purchase homes located within Targeted Areas through our Teacher Homeownership program (*R&R), not including mortgages on rental or vacation properties (source).
