Visitors will step into a room and be immersed in an immersive digital projection show using digital images depicting works with remarkable detail and color – set against an animated score composed by Italian media composer Luca Longobardi.

Creators of the show claim it is the first-of-its-kind to include sensory-friendly features, including audio descriptions of works and tactile versions of “Starry Night.” A visually impaired woman attending one demonstration reported feeling immersed in some works for the first time; Sarah Milledge who recently lost her sight said that an associate from Metrolina Association for the Blind provided detailed explanations.

Charlotte-based artist in residence for this immersive exhibit is creating a tactile rendition of “Sunflowers”, to be touched. Additionally, she hopes to add more interactive aspects such as virtual reality so people can walk around Van Gogh’s room as he was creating his renowned painting.
