How To Get The Detroit Zoo Teacher Discount
There isn’t one to claim, so there’s no ID to bring and no form to send. The FAQ does say the Zoo offers a number of classroom resources and professional development opportunities that can help educators and their students connect to animals and nature. On large parties, it says groups of 20 or more receive exclusive pricing and planning support, which is the closest thing the Zoo lists to a break for a teacher.

School Groups
The groups page invites school groups of 20 or more guests to the Zoo. It says school groups receive a special discount rate during the traditional school year, based on the first and last day of school, and it asks you to read all information thoroughly before submitting a school group reservation, because its policies and procedures have changed. A separate line says groups of 20 to 49 visiting at the same time can take advantage of discounted admission.
The FAQ adds that bus parking is available on a first-come basis. We didn’t see a per-student price on the pages we read, so ask the Zoo for the school rate when you reserve.
Buying Your Own Ticket
The FAQ says general admission tickets bought online for children and seniors cost $12 to $21, and adult tickets cost $14 to $24, depending on the date and time of your visit. Guests under the age of 2 are free. At the gate, walk-up tickets are $24 per child or senior and $27 per adult.
For savings on your own ticket, the FAQ lists two routes. Active duty military members and veterans get discounted admission of $22, available only onsite by showing a military or veteran ID at the gates. The FAQ also says the Zoo offers discounted tickets through partnerships with local libraries and cultural institutions, and suggests checking with your neighborhood library or a participating community organization to see if they offer Zoo ticket discounts. It adds that the Zoo currently does not offer discounted admission through EBT, WIC, SNAP or the Museums for All program.
Cash Back Routes We Checked
We looked for the Detroit Zoo on Fluz and TopCashback and found no page on either. Rakuten’s address for it loads a general page instead of a store page. That leaves us with no cash back rate to report, and we’d rather say that than guess at one.
What We Couldn’t Confirm
We couldn’t find the school group rate itself, or whether a teacher chaperoning a class visit pays anything different from other adults in the group.
