Dell gives verified K-12 teachers and post-secondary faculty in the U.S. 10% off eligible products bought directly on Dell.com. Its students page says students and teachers get an extra 10% off everything, and the banner on the same page says to save up to 10% in cart, with exclusions. Verification runs through SheerID, and you don’t need an academic email address.
If you’ve been putting off a new laptop for planning and grading, it’s worth setting this up before anything goes in your cart. Here’s what Dell asks for, what’s left out and where the Dell Outlet fits in.
How To Get The Dell Teacher Discount
Dell’s FAQ lists the steps: sign in to your Dell account (or create one), register for Dell Rewards, verify your teacher or faculty status through SheerID, and then shop eligible products. Dell Rewards is free for U.S. customers and you can join when you create or sign in to your account. Dell says the discount is applied automatically at checkout once you’re verified, and its students and qualify pages don’t mention a promo or coupon code.
SheerID checks you against the information and documents you give it, such as proof of employment in education or an active teaching credential. Dell says you don’t need an academic email address. Verification is usually almost instant, and when a document review is needed it takes about 20 minutes in the U.S. For verification questions, Dell points you to SheerID’s Help Center.
Who Counts As A Teacher
Dell’s FAQ defines Teachers as K-12 classroom teachers and educators, and Faculty as post-secondary instructors, professors, lecturers and other teaching faculty. Its qualify page lists the same groups as K-12 teachers and post-secondary faculty. We didn’t find homeschool parents named on either page, so if you’re not a classroom teacher or faculty member, read Dell’s wording before you count on it.
What’s Excluded And How Many You Can Buy
Dell says limited quantity deals, certain order codes, clearance offers, warranties, gift cards and some PCs, electronics and accessories are excluded. The discount can be combined with select offers but not stacked with other Dell coupons. You can use it on up to two eligible products per transaction and up to two transactions per year.
It only works on Dell.com. Dell says other retailers, even if they sell Dell products, don’t accept it, so a Dell laptop at another store won’t get the teacher price.
What About Dell Outlet
Dell’s teacher pages don’t mention Dell Outlet, the refurbished side of Dell. Its Dell Rewards page says you earn 3% back in rewards, calculated before tax, when you shop Dell.com, and that Dell Outlet orders aren’t eligible to earn or use rewards. We couldn’t confirm that the teacher discount applies to an Outlet order, so check what your cart shows before you count on it.
What ID.me Says
ID.me’s Dell teacher page says Dell has a Teachers discount and that Dell doesn’t use ID.me for Teachers verification. Dell’s own pages point you to SheerID, so verify there.
What We Couldn’t Confirm
Dell’s teacher FAQ doesn’t give an end date. The fine print for its Student Offer and Member Discounts on the same page does carry an offer end date, so read it on the page before you buy. We didn’t verify through SheerID or place an order, so we can’t say which products are excluded on a given day or what your cart will show.
