Central Florida Zoo gives public and private school teachers 20% off general admission, and you get it by buying your ticket in person at the zoo’s admissions window. The Special Discounts page says all public or private school instructional employees (teachers) receive the discount, with a copy of your school or teacher ID or a printout verification.

If you’ve been meaning to take your own kids to the zoo on a Saturday, or you want to walk the grounds before you plan a class trip, this is the discount to bring. The window is the part to plan for, so we’ve spelled it out.

How To Get The Central Florida Zoo Teacher Discount

Buy your ticket at the admissions window and show a copy of your school or teacher ID, or a printout that verifies you work at the school. The page says guests who want to use one of its discounts must purchase their tickets in person at the zoo’s admissions window, so a ticket you buy ahead online won’t carry the discount. If you have a question before you go, the page says to contact the zoo before your visit at 407-323-4450.

What The Discount Covers

The page says discounts apply to zoo admission only. They don’t apply to train rides, education programs or special events, and they can’t be combined with any other offers or discounts. So a teacher who is also a veteran, a college student or a local hotel guest picks one: the same page lists 20% off for military, 10% off single day general admission for college students and 10% off for local hotel guests who show a hotel key card.

One difference is worth noticing before you line up with your family. The military line says the 20% covers the service member and the entire party, and the hotel line says 10% off for your entire party. The teacher line doesn’t say anything about a party, so ask at the window whether your own kids get the discount too before you count on it.

Who Counts As A Teacher

The line names all public or private school instructional employees (teachers). If you’re a retired teacher, a substitute, a classroom aide or a homeschool parent, the line doesn’t describe you in those words, so call the zoo at 407-323-4450 before you drive over.

Bringing A Class

A class trip runs on a separate page. The Group Rates page says group rates start at 15 or more paying guests and lists children ages 3-12 at $14 and adults ages 12+ at $20, with children ages 2 and younger free. It also lists 1 teacher free per 10 kids and says bus drivers are free. The page says adults must accompany children at all times and recommends at least one chaperone for every 10 kids. To register a group and get the special pricing, call 407.323.4450 ext. 125 or email fieldtrips@centralfloridazoo.org.

What We Couldn’t Confirm

The Special Discounts page doesn’t say how the 20% is worked out at the window for a family, and it doesn’t put an end date on the teacher discount. We also couldn’t tell from the page whether a digital copy of your ID works or whether you need the paper one, since it only says a copy or a printout. The zoo’s number is 407-323-4450.
