We couldn’t confirm a teacher discount from Buick, and we know that isn’t the answer you were hoping for. General Motors does run an Educator Appreciation Program, but its own vehicle page marks every Buick model as “All vehicle models are excluded,” and Buick’s discount programs page names programs for GM employees, military members and first responders without naming educators. Before you head to a Buick dealership expecting a teacher price, it helps to know where the line sits.

Buick is a General Motors brand, sold alongside Chevrolet, GMC and Cadillac, and the lineup on the Build & Price page we looked at is the Enclave, the Encore GX, the Envision and the Envista. The educator program belongs to GM as a whole, not to Buick, and it applies to a different set of vehicles: according to the program’s rules, a new and unused Chevrolet EV or a Cadillac gas or electric vehicle.

How To Get The Buick Teacher Discount

There’s no Buick teacher offer to apply for, so there’s nothing to verify against. What you can do is read the same list we did. The program’s Vehicles page is titled All Eligible Vehicles, and it shows Chevrolet electric models such as the Blazer EV, Equinox EV and Silverado EV, and Cadillac models such as the LYRIQ, OPTIQ and VISTIQ. Buick and GMC both read “All vehicle models are excluded” for every model year the page lists. The program’s rules send you to that same Vehicles page for the list of eligible vehicles, so it’s the one to trust. You can open it yourself on the GM Educator Appreciation Vehicles page.

One thing can mislead you. A Build & Price page on Buick’s own site is headed GM Educator Discount, and it lists those Buick models. The same page also lists gas Chevrolets like the Colorado, which the program’s rules don’t cover, so it reads as a general shopping page and not a list of what qualifies.

If you’d like to use the educator program on a GM vehicle that is covered, our GM page walks through it. In short, active employees of a public school, private school, university or college can request an authorization number, and a participant can sponsor a spouse. You get two authorizations a year, each is valid for 90 days from the day it’s issued, and you’ll show a valid school ID or badge, or a pay stub from the last 30 days. If you teach in a public school, you may count as a state or municipal employee, and the rules say ethics and gift rules for those employees may restrict or prohibit taking part, so check yours before you plan around it.

The Buick programs that do exist are tied to who you are outside the classroom. Buick’s page lists a Military program for active-duty members, reservists, National Guard members, veterans and retirees, as well as their spouse, of the U.S. Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps and Coast Guard. It also lists a First Responder program that covers paid or volunteer firefighters and police, among others. If your spouse has served, or you volunteer on the weekends, those are worth a look on Buick’s discount programs page.

There’s also GM Rewards, which Buick’s rewards page offers with a Join For Free button. It says members earn 1 point for every $5 spent on an eligible, new GM vehicle. That’s a points program and not a teacher price, so we wouldn’t count on it to change what you pay.

Q&A

Does Buick give teachers a discount?
Not one we could confirm. Buick’s discount programs page says Buick provides discounts to eligible affiliates of GM, military personnel and first responders, and we found no educator program on it.

Does the GM Educator Appreciation Program cover Buick?
No. The program’s vehicle list marks all Buick models as excluded, and its rules limit eligible vehicles to a new and unused Chevrolet EV or a Cadillac gas or electric vehicle.

Which GM vehicles can teachers use the program on?
Chevrolet electric models and Cadillac models, per the program’s vehicle list. The details are on our GM page.

Could Buick be added later?
The rules say vehicle eligibility may change at any time without notice, and that the program may be withdrawn at any time. Check the program’s Vehicles page right before you shop, since that’s where a change would show up first.

Is there cash back on a Buick?
We checked Rakuten, TopCashback and Fluz, and none of them has a Buick page. Fluz does list 1.5% cash back at General Motors with a Fluz virtual card, valid only at official store locations, but we couldn’t confirm that it applies to a vehicle bought at a dealership, so we haven’t built a recommendation around it.

More Information:

The eligibility finding comes from the GM Educator Appreciation Program’s own vehicle list and rules, plus Buick’s discount programs and rewards pages, as they loaded when we checked. Programs change, so confirm before you sign anything. Nothing here claims a discount that Buick hasn’t offered to teachers. See more unavailable teacher discounts confirmed the same way.
