Alamo doesn’t publish a teacher discount. Its deals page lists last-minute and plan-ahead specials, a government and military rate, a partner rewards program and an Insiders program, and none of them names teachers or other school staff. ID.me Shop doesn’t have a Teachers page for Alamo either, so it gives no yes or no on the question.
That doesn’t mean Alamo is a bad pick for a conference trip or a summer drive. It has one 5% discount that’s free to join, plus a few ways to earn points you may already be collecting.
How To Get The Alamo Teacher Discount
There’s no teacher code to enter at checkout, so this is a look at what Alamo does publish.
Alamo Insiders. Alamo’s Insiders page says “It’s free and easy to join!” and that members “save 5% off base rates of pay later reservations.” The fine print is worth reading, because the page says the discount “applies only to the base rate charge (time and mileage)” and not to taxes, fees, surcharges, refueling, drop-off, delivery, youthful driver, additional driver, pick up or one way charges, or any optional product or service. So 5% of the base rate is smaller than 5% of your final bill.
Specials and email offers. Alamo’s deals page has Last Minute Specials for daily and weekly rentals in the U.S. and Canada, and Plan Ahead Specials for booking in advance. Its email sign-up page promises last-minute specials, exclusive offers and travel tips, and it doesn’t state a percentage, so treat the sign-up as a way to see what’s running rather than a fixed discount.
Government and military leisure rates. Alamo’s page says “Current federal employees of the U.S government, active-duty members, retired employees and veterans are eligible to receive discounted rental rates” for leisure travel, meaning off-duty or personal trips. It doesn’t print a percentage and points you to a travel agent, a government travel administrator or 1-800 GO ALAMO for the details. Teachers as a group aren’t named, but a veteran qualifies under that line whether or not they teach.
Partner rewards. Alamo’s partners page lists what a rental earns in other programs. Southwest Rapid Rewards gets 600 points on every qualifying rental, Delta SkyMiles gets 2 miles on every qualifying $1 spent, and Hilton Honors gets 500 points on every qualifying rental. American Airlines AAdvantage earns 2 miles per $1 on time and mileage, and Best Western Rewards earns 3 points per $1.
If You’re An AFT Member
AFT’s car rental savings page lists eight companies, and Alamo isn’t one of them. It names Avis, Budget, Dollar, Hertz, Payless and Thrifty at up to 35%, and Enterprise and National at up to 20%. If you’re an AFT member planning a rental, one of those companies is the place to use it. Our AFT membership guide covers who’s eligible and how to join.
Q&A
Does Alamo have a teacher discount?
Not one it publishes. Alamo’s deals, partners and government pages don’t name teachers, educators or a union program.
What does ID.me say about Alamo?
ID.me Shop has no Alamo Teachers page. Its Teachers pages for Hertz, Dollar and Budget each show up to 25% off, and its pages for Enterprise, Thrifty and Avis say it isn’t aware of a teacher discount at those companies. No Alamo page turned up.
Is the Insiders discount worth joining for?
It’s free, and it’s 5% of the base rate on pay later reservations, so it’s a small but real saving on a trip you’re already booking. Read the exclusions above before you count on a number.
Can I use the government rate as a teacher?
Only if you fit the eligibility line, which covers current federal employees, active-duty members, retired employees and veterans.
Which rental companies do have a teacher discount?
Hertz, Dollar and Budget, each at up to 25% on ID.me. Start with our Hertz and Budget guides.
More Information:
Everything about Alamo’s programs comes from Alamo’s own deals, Insiders, government and military, partners and email specials pages. The ID.me statements come from ID.me Shop’s Teachers pages for each brand, and the union figures come from AFT’s Car Rental savings page. Alamo changes its offers on its own schedule, so confirm the terms on its page before you book.
