Cox doesn’t have a teacher discount that we could find, and its own website now opens with “Cox is now Spectrum.” What we could confirm is cash back for new subscribers: Rakuten lists up to $32.50, TopCashback has a Cox Communications page, and Fluz lists 1.5% when you pay with a Fluz virtual card.

If you’re a teacher who already has Cox internet, or you’re weighing it for a new apartment before the school year, the useful thing to know is that the company is in the middle of becoming part of Spectrum. That changes what a teacher discount could even look like, so here’s what Cox’s own pages say.

How To Get The Cox Teacher Discount

We read Cox’s residential home page, its page about the change and its internet plans page. None of them mentions teachers or educators, so there’s no teacher rate or sign-up step to point you to.

The home page says Cox is now Spectrum, and the internet plans page loads as Spectrum Internet Plans with speeds from $30/mo. The page about the change says your service stays the same and your price and current plan stay the same. It also says “As Spectrum and Cox become one company,” so the move is still happening. If you want to ask Cox about a teacher or school rate anyway, its page about the change lists a phone line, and the answer is worth getting in writing before you switch plans. The button below goes to TopCashback, where we found a Cox Communications page.

If You’re Already A Cox Customer

The page about the change answers the question most existing customers have. It says existing promotions, discounts or commitment terms will be honored according to your current agreement with Cox. If you’re mid-contract on a promotional price, the move to Spectrum isn’t supposed to change it, and the page says you’ll hear in advance if that changes.

If Spectrum is the provider where you live, our Spectrum post covers what we found there.

What Each Cash Back Source Says

Rakuten’s store page for Cox is titled “Cox is now Spectrum” and lists up to $32.50 cash back. Its terms say cash back is only available for new subscribers and limited to one per member, so it won’t help if you’re already a customer who’s just changing your plan. TopCashback has a Cox Communications page, though we couldn’t read a rate there. Fluz lists 1.5% cashback at Cox Communications, and its page says you can use a Fluz virtual card to pay your monthly bills, which makes it the one that applies to an existing account. Rates change, so check the number on the portal before you sign up.

What We Couldn’t Confirm

We didn’t call Cox or Spectrum, so we can’t say whether a representative could offer a teacher or school rate on request. We also didn’t place an order, so we don’t know what the Rakuten amount would be on a particular plan, since the page shows a range. And because the change is still underway, the pages we read could look different by the time you do.
